Rogue 03-08-2005 01:06 PM

I'm playing Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance and MGS2 on PS2 and Zelda, A link to the Past on GBA (GC with GBA player).

How about you?

Stroggy 03-08-2005 01:13 PM

Battlefield 2
Deus Ex
and I also (finally) managede to get Discworld Noir to run under WindowsXP (yippee!) so I'm playing that again.

Blood-Pigggy 03-08-2005 01:14 PM

Monkey Island Series
I got a nostalgic feeling one morning, and decided to play them from beggining to end, I'm at the end of the second game now.

Doubler 03-08-2005 01:19 PM

Just finished Thief 3 again yesterday, so I'll have to think of something new to play.

EDIT: Downloading Daggerfall demo. That'll do for now.

omg 03-08-2005 01:36 PM

laser squad nemisis (demo) latest from the genius julian gollop. definatly gonna buy the full version,
tachyon - the fringe
and just got me chaos leuge!! woohoo!!
and the usual zx spectrum suspects.

Blood-Pigggy 03-08-2005 01:37 PM

This is off topic, but Bruce Campbell voices the main character in Tachyon.

THAT IS THE BEST.

I've switched to playing Soldat now, and I'm leading 50 - 24 against the other oppressors!

Doubler 03-08-2005 01:43 PM

tachyon - the fringe
Wow, just remembered I've got that game lying around here somewhere.
It's been a while; going to play that then. Thanks for remembering me

Reup 03-08-2005 01:44 PM

Baldurs Gate, Dungeon Master, Hexen II, Amaeth the Lost Kingdom (for a review). I just finished Gothic and quit Kingdom of Loathing :)

MdaG 03-08-2005 01:48 PM

Riven, best adventure game I've played yet. Even better than Grim Fandango!

troop18546 03-08-2005 01:51 PM

Now - The Temple of Elemental Evil. Awesome, just... awesome... :omg:

Blood-Pigggy 03-08-2005 01:54 PM

I have that game but it freezes too much.

OH MY GOD THE BUGS! IT'S INFESTED WITH BUGS!!

troop18546 03-08-2005 01:56 PM

There aren't much bugs in there. Troika's games rule.

What are you talking about?
That game is infested and rife with bugs, you just need to pay attention.
The unfinishable quest, the broken AI pathfinding glitch, the mysterious dissapearance of items (very hard to notice) it goes on...

Now playing - Ultima 7

Indignus IV 03-08-2005 02:01 PM

I don't play any games anymore. I just don't feel like it or want to. Don't know why.

I'd rather write reviews for abandonia than actually play games for sport.

Rogue 03-08-2005 02:02 PM

How do you write reviews without playing the game?

Apocalypse Dude 03-08-2005 02:02 PM

Totally addicted to Dungeon Siege

Again................

The Fifth Horseman 03-08-2005 03:02 PM

Temple of Elemental Evil isn't that good.

Compared to Baldur's Gate or PS:T, it's trash.

Lonely Vazdru 03-08-2005 04:06 PM

Well, i saw it at a friend's home it seemed cool enough. Turn based (i love turn based games) and the latest AD&D rules. And i'm currently masterizing a real TOEE D&D game, so i'd like to play the computer version.

Spoonman 03-08-2005 04:09 PM

It just didn't work. I downloaded my copy from *bleep* and everything went okay (after a couple of hours trying to get it to work), except that that scene seemed to be missing, just like the scene in which the guy and the hot but dangerous chick (forgot the names) were supposed to kiss eachother.

This reminds me of radio and tv in USA....

I had to unplug all of mine computers at home, so I half finished (I don't remember which time) startcraft, The Settler (first part) and Monkey Island (also first part).

Ah well you downloaded it, I bought the game a long time ago when it was released. Odd really, I had never heard of the Discworld books before I played the game and the game wasn't all too known either, yet I just picked it up and played it.
I do have to say the way I had to get the game working again didn't feel right (I had to get a NoCD patch from a not-so-legal site because the CD copyprotection didn't agree with Windows XP.

Anyway, I am thinking of buying Guild Wars. I've never played an online RPG but the graphics seem decent, it has gotten some good reviews and the fact that you just need to pay for the game and not a monthly/annual pay (like the World of Warcraft ripoff) is tempting. Sadly after buying a new and expensive graphics card I don't know if it would be wise to spend another €50 on it.

Anyway, I'm ranting.

Rogue 03-08-2005 05:59 PM

At another forum I heard a good things about GW. Reason I am avoiding online games is that you'll get always beaten over and over by someone who plays more then 14 hours a day X 7 days a week that same game.

Games seem to be expensive in EU.

Fruit Pie Jones 03-08-2005 06:01 PM

Right now, I'm playing Work. I'm getting paid to play it, too.

Yeah, we don't get a refund if we don't like the game and return it, either.

I'm thinking of playing Morrowind again.

Rogue 03-08-2005 06:12 PM

Have you played any FF games?

I purchaed yesterday couple of the games including SquareSoft and Disney's Kingdom Hearts. This game reminds me of FF-X (same character, just at younger age)

Stroggy 03-08-2005 06:17 PM

I only played the demo of FF VII, I'm not really into Japanese RPGs.

Blood-Pigggy 03-08-2005 06:18 PM

Final Fantasy games booooooore me....
I just play em for the stories.

efthimios 03-08-2005 07:19 PM

The games that I play now days are in no particular order:
C&C Renegade online,
Imperial Glory,
Spartan,
Space Empires IV (trying again to like the game),
RTW,
Monkey Island,
Emperor,
Colonial Conquest,
Generals ZH,
No Man's Land,
Waterloo,
Chaser,
and later tonight I will install again The Ward.

(I have a lot of free time, unemployed and all)

blastradius14 03-08-2005 07:23 PM

You want to see the wimpyest rpg of all time? A snes game called Final Fantasy Mystic Quests. This is not considered a true final fantasy game.

In sweden a new game averages around $45. An older game (older than 3 years) can be sold for around $9. I don't think that's so bad.

*edit*
I made a typo $4 --> $9, sorry.

Rogue 03-08-2005 07:51 PM

No, it's not. THat's what games sells around here too. Old games are a bit more expensive. (depending on the game)

Tales of Symphonia... rented it for a week, on the 2nd run through to get a different ending..

Sebatianos 03-08-2005 08:13 PM

Civilization 3

Finished ToS, moved back to Tales of Phantasia for nostalgias sake... that, and I don't have to play it in japanese anymore, which is a definite bonus. Having to use a walkthrough in place of narative sucks.

...wow, I had forgotten about how obscenely high the encounter rate was... oh well, the fighting is still a blast compared to most RPG's. ...but the "fahrst aida!" voice sample makes up for it.

Indignus IV 04-08-2005 02:22 PM

@Anubis: sorry for answering your question 4 pages later, but:

I don't PLAY the games to review them, I just open them, take a look around, research the story a bit than make a review. In this way I can make a review in 20 minutes or less.

A. J. Raffles 04-08-2005 02:23 PM

Well, that's great, but aren't there games which you need to have played for a bit before you can appreciate them?

efthimios 04-08-2005 02:54 PM

I appreciate your honesty but that sounds like one of the worst ways to write a review. Would you write a review of a movie by watching the trailer and looking at a couple of posters?
Thanks for saying that, I will be careful if I ever read one of your reviews.

Stroggy 04-08-2005 03:00 PM

You know, when reviewing Curse of Enchantia I was tempted to do just that, but eventually I did play it all, you know why? Because I felt obligated to our readers to review the whole game because, who knows, it could just have been a weak start (like the recent adventuregame "the moment of silence" the start was boring and slowpaced, but halfway through things started speeding up and it turned out to be a good game)
I think you should invest some more time in the games you review. Sure if you're reviewing C&C you won't play every single mission because, after a while, you get it.. you know how the game plays at what the missions are like (some are basebuilding, some are stealthy, some are a mix of the two) but just "looking around" won't cut it, i'm sorry.

Anyway, back on topic people!

yeah well I don't blindly follow anyone's opinion before I've played (that's right, played not looked at) the game myself anyway (or else I just would have said I actually like tempest 2000 for instance :P). Gamers shouldnt'be lazy either ;)

efthimios 04-08-2005 03:46 PM

Heh, don't get me wrong, I am not going to choose a game solely on one person's opinion, but I believe a reviewer should at least try to finish a game (where that is possible) before publishing a review. I know it is hard and all some times but...
I remember when Red Alert 2 came out I played through the game and finished it (both campaigns at medium and hard level) in two days just because I was writing a review of it. Now, many of the older games do not have a save function or anything like that, so yes a tetris or pacman game should not have a prerequisite to finisht the game but you should play more than 20 min or a couple of hours first, don't you think?

Spoonman 04-08-2005 04:07 PM

Well then you're no lazy player, good :) And I agree, 20 minutes is not enough to review any game of any kind come to think of it.

ReamusLQ 04-08-2005 05:25 PM

And I take great pride in being able to take a formerly difficult and painstaking task and multitasking so that I can make quality products double time.

Good for you, Indi-Windy, but how can you know your twenty-minutes-per-review approach is better if you've never actually tried doing it the time-consuming painstaking way (unless I've misunderstood your previous posts, that is)? At any rate, calling it "Mama Johnsens homestyle game reviews" could be read as a bit of an arrogant statement, don't you think?

well it seems to me that some of the comments here have made sense. calling all these posts *drivel* is just so far up your own anus that you are boxing the epiglotis.

Rogue 04-08-2005 06:53 PM

20 minutes is surely not enough.

Some reviewers are completing games just to review them and to better understand them. Same goes for screen shots. Screenshots should be from various places in the game, not just from beginning.

What games have you reviewed?

omg 04-08-2005 07:01 PM

i have only reviewd 5th fleet. and i h a t e d it. literally. but i played it through becuse i could see that for what it was it was a well made example. reosen i havnt reviewed other games is becuae evry other game i applied to revew someone else has already got, but if we ever get permission to host laser squad, its MINE and i will thoroughly enjoy reviewing it as it was made by the man gollop, responsible for such greats as chaos, ufo, x com, to name but a few.

i will revew more in future, like when games i like come up and no one else has already sighned up for them.

Rogue 04-08-2005 07:06 PM

My question was for Indignus IV, but thanks for answering it anyway. :)

One of the reason I post here is to improve my English skills. Low English skills is also another reason I am not reviewing games. (I hardly find the game that I like to review)

To bad we are not hosting any Amiga, C64 or Spectrum games.

omg 04-08-2005 07:08 PM

Indi has reviewed Wolf, The Great Escape, Protostar, Ford Simulator 5 and Rambo III - probably more, those are just the reviews that are up already.

I actually wrote Woolf. I study English Lit, remember?:D

Indignus IV 04-08-2005 07:40 PM

Well, my first review, Wolf, was very painstakingly made. You can see the review is very well researched and quite long. I played the game for almost 2 hours before I made the review.

And omg, the "drivel" was more of a joke actually. Sorry if your offended.

And AJ, with Mama Johnsens Homestyle Reviews I was referring to the reverent way you guys talk about reviews :D not trying to be arrogant.

Besides the 5 I have up, I have one waiting to be updated and I am working on one right now.

Didnt mean to offend anybody about anything.

Ew! You said epiglottis!

And in case you haven't noticed Indignus, we are a "Mama Johnsens", we could be like other abandonware sites that just put the game up for download and say "this game is really good, you get to play as a pilot who...[insert another few lines]" and that is their 'review'
You just need to look at Abandonia Reloaded to see we really do care for detail (what with all the date, the company- and creator profiles...)
But if that is the way you want to review, fine by me, guess you're just following a trend in the branch of reporting: you just glance over the subject at hand and write your opinion.

Now, people, we should all get back on topic, really!

A. J. Raffles 04-08-2005 07:43 PM

All right, you're a clever boy, Indi, but this is really leading us away from the topic of this thread.

I thought you were joking and felt ready to rush to your defence, but you were serious. That's freaky. What point is there in reading your opinion about the pros and cons of a game you actually never really played ? I'm reviewing books for a living and i would get fired if i worked like that. Sorry if this is :ot: but i logged in late today and i felt i had to add my two cent worth on the subject. At least Indy's honest but i don't see the point in having him reviewing games this way.

@ Indi you only played the first review game for 2 hours? I would play the whole game first. Well, maybe not for shoot em up games. Most of them have very similar plots anyway LOL
The only problem you could possibly have is the fear that someone will post the review before you. Uh-no! The end of the world is nigh!

I am also playing Tyrian 2k for all the memories in that game :ok:

Indignus IV 04-08-2005 11:00 PM

Mr. Vazdru: there is a large difference between books and games.

I myself am not a good game player. I personally don't want to spend 3 days trying to get past level one of a game. Instead, maybe I will carefully read through the manual and walkthrough and look at lots of varied screenshots to judge the overall quality of a game.

To read a book, you read it. To play games, you have to be good at playing them.

If you're going to be that obsessive about games, at least think before you begin posting and rashly judging my actions.

You can't judge anything this way.
And of course i'm obsessive about games. This site is supposed to be dedicated to games obsessed people. But please, continue doing your stuff your way. You were fine before you even knew of me. You can still be fine now. I don't agree with your methods but i don't want to fight you. This is disagreement, not open war ! :D

Btw i compared with my work because i too could leaf fast trough the pages, look at the cover, the back cover summary, the blurb, a couple of press reviews and woosh ! do my job in 1 hour time.

To read a book, you read it. To play games, you have to be good at playing them.
Yes, it's not like reading requires any skills, is it? Any moron who knows the alphabet can do it, right? Whereas only a select few can play computer games.[/sarcasm] (Don't mind me there, I'm a literature geek.;) )

Anyway, maybe I'm stating the bloody obvious, Indi, but wouldn't it be just as easy to use walkthroughs to finish a game more quickly - but still actually finishing it - as to read and compare them carefully (as I'm sure you do) and partially base your review on the results?

moogle 04-08-2005 11:30 PM

And just think Indi, this way you get to watch all the cool movies in the games too!! Yowza!

Indignus IV 04-08-2005 11:31 PM

And a walkthrough can teach you how to shoot well?

Indi
If you're not so good at shooting games, why not try something else, like puzzle or adventure or rpg?
:ok:

It might give a few pointers, or even lead you to a bigger gun. If your gun is big enough, you won't have to aim

Hey, good point :D

Hey, why don't we give Indignus a break ? This is turning into a "reviewing by Indignus, what do you think of it ?" thread. I partly initiated this so i'll lay low for a while. To get back on topic, i still play Baldur's Gate 2 with tons of mods installed, so it will take me a good time to finish. So i probably won't post here for some time.

Unless i do some off topic. :sneaky:

I play Blood.....when my parents arent watching.

I play the Sims like crazy, but I havent played in close to a year because something making it not work :(

I would fix it, but it will take WAAAY too long.

Maybe you guys are right. Shooters arent my thing.

All in all I don't play much at all, like I said earlier.

Wow, you must really be younger. That explains the whole defensiveness bit. If you play the sims like crazy, why not fix it? Do you have like a million little add-ons or something? Taking a little time to fix a little problem is better than fixing it out of anger and boredom when you are stuck with nothing better to do :ok:

moogle 05-08-2005 03:21 AM

Dude I hate the Sims.....

blastradius14 05-08-2005 03:22 AM

So do I. My sister loves the living daylights out of them though. I'd rather go play god in an AOE game :ok:

moogle 05-08-2005 03:24 AM

Same...I don't wanna spend my time managing a horde of win lil people, I wanna build an army and destroyyy!!

a1s 05-08-2005 03:32 AM

I'm mainly playing onEscapee (you guys do know it has a freeware remake for Windows, right?), that is about 60% of the time, plus I play random abw RPGs or strategies to get my mind of it.

P.S. does anyone know what you have to do on that level with lot's of mines and head shokers?

Iron_Scarecrow 05-08-2005 06:51 AM

Well I'm playing GTA 5 now and nearly finished. Probably be the last game I play before I finish school as well which is in 2 months and 27 days exactly. I think. Well anyway I finish November 4 so you figure it out.

Indignus IV 05-08-2005 02:23 PM

I used to also play LOTR: the battle for middle earth.

That was fun! Controlling an army of several thousand and attacking the walls of minas tirith.

Danny252 05-08-2005 02:32 PM

:|
mass person control...?
mass persons with sharp pointy things control...?
mass persons with sharp pointy things killing eachother under my control?
I WANT THAT GAME!

You'd better go for Rome: Total War then. The masses are larger and the game much less unbalanced.
That's not to say you shouldn't try LOTR: the battle for middle earth too :D

Danny252 05-08-2005 02:49 PM

*goes plays RTW*
*remembers about radio*
still need to find the goddamn cd for it.

Doc Adrian 06-08-2005 11:29 PM

Civilization 3....damn it too...everytime I play a new Civilization game I play it for about a week straight...I smell bad...my loved ones leave me in frustration...and I almost get fired =P well not that bad, but I spend way too much time on this thing.

Argith Nuei 10-08-2005 04:48 PM

Tales of Symphonia (gamecube)
Probably the finest Rpg for the nintendo in newer times. :ok:

Kon-Tiki 10-08-2005 04:51 PM

Age of Empires 2: Age Of Kings two days ago, and yesterday was making maps and testing them for the Conqueror's Expansion. I quickly grow bored of such games, though. Might want to go back to good ol' Mario when that happens

<mumbles>damn screenshots... that game's a hell to take them from</mumbles>
