49-hour gaming session kills man

I used to play CivNet head-to-head all night long on occasion, but 49 hours of gaming is insane.

Rogue 10-08-2005 01:47 PM

That is insane. I played couple of games over night, but 49 hours is way too much. Also hi might have some prior health issues. (I stayed awake more then 60 hours)

geron 10-08-2005 01:50 PM

A friend of mine doesn't want to go out. He's playing World of Warcraft every day from 4 pm to 7 am. He's already at 40th leve. A bit crazy...

A. J. Raffles 10-08-2005 01:50 PM

Didn't he even stop to go to the toilet from time to time?

Blood-Pigggy 10-08-2005 01:52 PM

That seems a bit nasty.

I'm on the same level as A.J. Did he even use the bathroom?

Puffin 10-08-2005 01:52 PM

Eeeew, that's nasty!!

According to BBC he did.

Fruit Pie Jones 10-08-2005 02:30 PM

From the BBC article:

Professional gamers there attract huge sums in sponsorship and can make more than $100,000 a year.
How many of you zoomed right in on that sentence? :)

Das Ei 10-08-2005 03:02 PM

That was scary *uninstalls all addictive games from computer* :D

blastradius14 10-08-2005 03:03 PM

How would they pay you?

Ops, you got to 70th level, heres 110000 whatever in currency.

He must not have snacked properly :bleh:

Maikel 10-08-2005 03:06 PM

Gaming championships can be lucrative. When Nvidia has the need to showcase their new hardware and organise a big lanparty for it, you can get some big cash prices when you win.

Sponsorship,
you have company's label & logo and win tournaments.

Insane IMHO.

efthimios 10-08-2005 03:16 PM

That was strange, I have logged in about 65 hours (with breaks to go to the toilet, eat and walk for 2-3 min every few hours) and never had any problem. I was much younger at the time, but still. (then I was asleep for about 13 hours, my second most high record sleeping)

Of course it is not healthy at all. There is also blood clotting that might cause a problem.

Nowdays I can barely play about 4 hours in a row without the need for a break, even if it is 20 min one.

Blood-Pigggy 10-08-2005 03:41 PM

Well, you know how it is with Starcraft...

Un?fortunately, I don't. When I first tried the game (back then) I quickly got bored of it so I never touched it again.

omg 10-08-2005 04:22 PM

they should use it on the promo material *starcraft, its so cool its Killer*
*starcraft, so good people are Dieng to play it*
i never played starcraft but im tempted now, if a dude died for it its gotta be good.
how long untill world o warcraft takes its first victim i wonder..

ReamusLQ 10-08-2005 04:25 PM

Longest I've ever played a game was Starcraft, and I played it for 22 hours straight before my parents came out and yelled at me and threatened to ban me from the computer for a month if I didn't get off.

When I was staying at my brother's place in Utah this summer, one of his roommates played Counter Strike for 36 hours straight,, stopping only to go to the bathroom, and to grab a few slices of pizza to eat while playing. When he finally came out of his room around noon, he was walking with his hands out to the side like he was sneaking. He would pause at all corners and very slowly peer around, then pull back, then peer around again to make sure it was safe or something. My brother said "Hey!" to him from behind, and he turned around and tried to shoot him with his fingers :bleh: Then he realized what he was doing, took a sleeping pill, and slept for 18 hours. His eyes were sooooooooo bloodshot. It was funny to watch :D

Yobor 10-08-2005 04:31 PM

I've heard of that before, around the year 2000. It sounds exactly the same to this new one here. A guy named Lee in South Korea dies in an internet cafe after playing lots of computer. Either its a hoax, or people haven't learned their lesson.

Danny252 10-08-2005 06:12 PM

uhh.. you forgot to read the whole topic. LOOK AT THE FIRST POST!

Rogue 10-08-2005 06:17 PM

Yobor,
It’s not hoax. Apparently a lot of people in Korea took (online) gaming very seriously.

punch999 10-08-2005 06:20 PM

south koreans are also known for Off Line Pking which they are famous for after someone kills them on lineage or another MMO they loveand they lose alot of money and rare items they sometimes hunt down and kill the person in RL

scary obbsessed basterds

Danny252 10-08-2005 06:26 PM

at least.. um.. something..

Toxik 10-08-2005 09:36 PM

sports and gaming is similar in some way

recreational is entertaining and good for you
whilst proffesional is bad, twisted boring, repetitive and dangerous

Shunk Eat Enemy 11-08-2005 12:58 AM

see thats where you would never find me playing for more then 5 hours i like to eat eating is right under things i like to do playing video games
food

Blood-Pigggy 11-08-2005 01:00 AM

Whoa, I remember, only thing I ate today was pizza for dinner.
It's the game I'm working on (See Evil's Playground, Programming) It's so much more fun to make a game than play it, you get so caught up it's unbearable.

Sorry for double post, but the reason Starcraft is so attracting to people is because it's AMAZING when you play it online.

You get so hooked on custom maps and melee games that you want to play everyday.

Shunk Eat Enemy 11-08-2005 01:06 AM

starcraft was a RTS the game with the zerglings right and space aliens/space troopers

whats this game you speak of?

Blood-Pigggy 11-08-2005 01:09 AM

Yah, das Starcraft.

TheChosen 11-08-2005 09:14 AM

Im not scared nor shocked.
In fact,i could play even more than 49 hours. :D

Rogue 11-08-2005 12:25 PM

troop18546 11-08-2005 02:02 PM

And I just had a thought of buying Starcraft a few days ago.

plague 11-08-2005 02:09 PM

And my parents say that I play too much.

omg 11-08-2005 04:03 PM

warcraft has now claimed its first soul.
not cool.

ReamusLQ 11-08-2005 04:05 PM

blargh...people like that don't deserve to have kids...idiots!

Lonely Vazdru 11-08-2005 04:54 PM

Yeah ! It's a shame the game wasn't released earlier, maybe they would have been to busy playing it to actually have a kid. :not_ok:

Sean 11-08-2005 05:03 PM

That is *dirty word* awful.... thats disgraceful!!

blastradius14 11-08-2005 05:39 PM

Gee. Why are stupid people allowed to breed? Life isn't about the life you are living through a monitor at 4 am LOL

Blood-Pigggy 11-08-2005 05:41 PM

Me heards about it a long time ago.

They were just really, really stupid people...

Rogue 11-08-2005 06:11 PM

How can you hear about it long time ago, if this happened not even 3 months ago?

There was another accident with some girl locking baby in the car with closed windows on a very hot day, while she played Everquest II. That was about year (or more) ago.

I whish that they end up in prison where guards play games and forget to feed them. :ranting:

blastradius14 11-08-2005 07:16 PM

That would cut down on the breeding, good idea Anubis LOL

If I don't consider 2 months a long time ago then I have a problem with digesting time.

That's long enough to be a "long time".

Rogue 11-08-2005 08:04 PM

OK.
