I have an old shareware version of a DOS game called CONQUEST version 1.7 by David Burns. Despite all my searching for this David Burns I have not been able to find him or any full versions of his game. If anyone can help me I would be very appreciative. If there is a better place to post such a request I would also like to know that too.

Cheers,
Bfree

No, you're in the right place here. :D
But I never heard of that game... What is it about?

bfree 30-08-2004 07:33 AM

It is just a simple little DOS game that I like to play occasionally. It’s a strategy game that has continents that are evenly divided in to smaller areas sort of like states. 2 to 8 players try to out luck and over power their opposition by massing armies represented by a number and attacking the next adjoining area. The goal is to wipe out all opposition.

Could it be any of the games on this list?

No, but thanks for the tip. I can't believe there are so many games about conquest out there. The one I am looking for is by David Burns who was in the Military stationed in Bedford MA, until at least 1982. After that I have no idea of where he went. His game was distributed as shareware which is how I came across it.

Cheers,
Bfree

I'll look around some when I get the time ;)

Stroggy 30-08-2004 03:44 PM

I found it
conquest v1.8 by David Burns
sadly I had to give a username and password when I clicked on it to download
I'll continue searching

Stroggy 30-08-2004 03:47 PM

hmmm
I don't think this is it, but it sounds like the same thing
Conquest Shareware
perhaps this? conquest for windows

bfree 31-08-2004 06:06 AM

Hey Stroggy, What do you mean you found it? Where? The Windows version you mentioned does not interest me. I hope you were not having fun with me. :sneaky:

aaberg 02-09-2004 03:10 PM

You can find it here

http://www.legypt.net/general/index/Night_...%20-%20svga.htm

However, as stroggy says, you need somekind of username and password. Try to check out the price. Maybe it's worth it.

You could also download some kind of RISK game, I think conquest and RISK are very familiar. However, I have never heard of Conquest before, so I don't know for sure. :)

bfree 03-09-2004 04:23 AM

Yes, that’s it. But how do I get a copy of it. There is no way I am going to put my credit card info into that unsecured form and let just anyone use it.
Anyone have an idea? Or maybe another site where I can find it?

Buy the way, I found another site with a version 2.5 but it was not the same game.

Thanks for all your help.

this are versions of Risk if you're interested in those:

http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?gameid=2635

What are the differences between conquest & risk?

mika 03-09-2004 09:22 AM

Here you go: http://bhs.broo.k12.wv.us/pub/MegaGames2/GAMES/BOARD/

It's called CONQ18.ZIP.

If you know/like the game, why not get a review and some screenshots done and then we can place it on the site. It was a hard game to find!

FreeFreddy 03-09-2004 09:34 AM

Wow, we seem to have an competitor for the title Master of Searching here... :P
Tom, beware! ;)

And I'm always glad to. B)

I found it! David started a company and eventually put out a windows version. I just emailed him asking how to register and unlock the other maps. I found it in a very extensive shareware list at http://www.pcgameworld.com/downloads.php/dltype/4/

Thanks everyone for all your help. I knew that eventually somehow I would find it.
The game review idea is a good idea. I will try to put one together. The game does not look like much but it is addictive and easy to play. I do not like the windows version because it is more work with the mouse. The DOS version flows well. If you try it, give it a bit before you decide if you like it or not.

Cheers for now.
Bfree :D

I seem to have owned that game a long time ago. It's almost just like Risk.

I had another that was also similar that I think represented your armies with a bullet.

You should try out another one like Risk or something as most are similar.

bfree 09-09-2004 12:16 AM

If you still have it, do you want to part with it?

Yes you still can have the shareware version (version 1.7) on Megaupload: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RJF0Z2J3

By the way for those who wants a video preview of the game! ;)

My friends and I would play this all the time on my 486. What a great strategy game.
So I was going through some old stuff and came across it after many years. I have three 5 1/4 Conquest disks that were mailed to me when I purchased copies from David Burns. These are the full versions:
Version 1 (printed label)
Conquest Map Editor V 1.6 (hand-written label)
Conquest V 2.0 (hand-written label)

Password is printed on the label.
I don't see myself playing it again but if you are interested, please reply to this thread.

I'll accept the best offer :-)

Please contact me at Natneechess (at) Gmail.com; I would like to talk about getting these from you.

Does this game still count as approved, even though it was originally shareware?

The link to the developer's website leads to a cannot-find-server error.

Paco 05-07-2011 03:16 PM

If the game is not sold and not protected either, then its approved. But we will only take the Full version not the shareware-version.

The Fifth Horseman 05-07-2011 03:23 PM

The shareware version is OK for extras if it has something (levels, whatever) the full one doesn't.

arete 05-07-2011 03:25 PM

Gotcha, thanks guys :)

Eric_Aw 21-08-2015 09:14 PM

Hi,

I bought the old magnodyne domain and opened a new site regarding this shareware : v1.x, 2x and Windows downloads.

I also opened a forum to discuss.

Regards

Eric.

Sorry Natneechess, I didn't see your reply until just now. I don't remember if I hung on these disks or not. Since it was like 20 years old, I probably pitched it when I was cleaning house. I'm not sure where I would have put it if I held onto it. If I come across it again, I'll let you know.
