Ohh, yes. I remember this one. A real classic. Walk around and burn things with your flamethrower. I have completed it many times, it never got bored. It's a long time since I played it, though. I'm downloading it right now. :ok: B)

FreeFreddy 02-09-2004 07:22 PM

Wasn't there another Halloween Harry game, called just like that, without Alien Carnage addon? http://forum.giga.de/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif
I remember playing this one first, then getting Alien Carnage after that. Alien Carnage had other levels, actually...
Well, in any case, now it's time to play the full version at last, yay! :D

Ioncannon 03-09-2004 02:14 PM

Halloween Harry was the Shareware name. The full verion name is Alien Carnage.

Guest 03-09-2004 03:47 PM

how many CPU cycles would you guys recommend for this to run at a decent fps under dosbox, cause at the standard 2500 it chugs bad :(

FreeFreddy 03-09-2004 04:00 PM

2500? No, you need at least 5000, I would recommend 7500 for this one or higher. ;)

Actually, at the time I played them both, they were both shareware versions, and both had the different names...

Durak 08-09-2004 12:19 AM

I remember this game! I don't remember when or where I played it...but I remember playing it for a long time with much enjoyment.

Omuletzu 15-11-2004 11:16 AM

I also remember playing it... too bad it's not working on my PC.It returns a runtime error 200 and some numbers separated by : I've tried reinstalling, boot disk. How can i get it to work

leaf 30-11-2004 08:16 AM

yes! that happens for me too! that runtime error thingy. so how does it work? someone please help us?

Tuttle 30-11-2004 10:14 AM

A slowdown utility or DOSBox should fix that. It's a CPU speed related issue in some versions of a particular old Borland library.

{_TNW_} 17-12-2004 11:45 PM

um, when i run msdos prompt, it still gives a runtime error, im sorta new to abandonware, can sumone run me thru it?

email it to me at philllip@prassnet.com

Tuttle 18-12-2004 02:46 AM

DOSBox is an emulator program, not just a normal command prompt. You can download it from here, and there's a basic how-to guide here.

The Duke 07-01-2005 09:58 PM

Actually I think that Apogee thought that the name Halloween Harry was a little dumb, so they changed it to Alien Carnage. Earlier versions are called Halloween Harry.

Predator 07-01-2005 10:45 PM

Yes, that's right, first there was Halloween Harry, later Alien Carnage. They had little different levels, though. But same title screens.

The Duke 07-01-2005 11:02 PM

OK still havn't figured it out can anyone else save games

The Duke 08-01-2005 10:27 AM

:ranting: THIS SUCKS A**. DAMN THING WONT SAVE :ranting:

The Duke 11-01-2005 12:34 AM

Well i got it to save once. no idea how tho.

Donald 23-01-2005 11:46 PM

I remember finding another Alien Carnage game- and I'm not mixing it up with Halloween Harry. I read a review about it's sequel somewhere, it was called sumethin like, "Halloween Harry 2- Desert Attack." It's supposed to be where aliens start attacking in citys and beaches cause the aliens got out of the sewers. Someone try finding it.
PS-Im not kidding

Guest_guest 26-03-2005 09:18 PM

How do you run the game in DOSBox? DOSBox can run other DOS games, but not this one. After I type the command, DOSBox just skip a line and pretend nothing happened. What did I do wrong?

komplike 17-07-2005 08:31 PM

Something seems to be very wrong with the copyrights on this title...

Now... is it that the poor guy is just deluded, or is Apogee lying and usurping ownership of a copyright that does not belong to them anymore?

ur not the only one- mine too! On my old 98 and the millenium ed.! But now since I have XP I hope it might work?

marcus 13-01-2007 11:56 PM

is anybody know how to install and start the game, i dont know whats wrong but i cant play it.i installed the game but i cant play it. when i try to open the .exe file, nothing will happend :wallbash:

Scatty 14-01-2007 07:31 AM

1. Don't attempt to install it, it's already in the installed state. Simply extract the contents of the downloaded archive to some folder, best one with 8 letters only for display / type compatibility in DosBox.
2. Download DosBox from here, read the helpful instruction on it here, and play the game in DosBox. Increase the emulation speed (CPU cycles) with CTRL+F12 (decrease with CTRL+F11) and all should be fine.

MissJo 04-02-2007 09:50 PM

Greetings,

I'm running this game on DOSbox, and not having any problems, except for one rather major one: it WILL NOT save. It allows me into the save menu just fine, but does it save? Nooooo. Am I simply stupid, and missing something obvious? Or is there something far more sinister at work?

Any help would be appreciated.

The Fifth Horseman 05-02-2007 11:52 AM

Check if the game directory/files happen to be set to "read only".

They were set to read only, unfortunately changing that setting hasn't solved the problem. I think it's a glitch in the game itself, as when you return from the save menu the bottom half of the screen (player info, radar map and all that) doesn't go back to normal -- it remains an image of the save menu. The various bits of info return as you use that particular function, but the whole thing never goes back to normal. (If that makes any sense at all. I'm very tired at the moment, also ill, and not thinking very clearly.)

Very frustrating.

The Fifth Horseman 09-02-2007 07:22 AM

Hmm. Did you try to change output to overlay (or ddraw) in Dosbox.conf? That helped me when I was encountering this sort of issues in some other games.

Nickelodeon 23-09-2007 12:21 PM

For those having trouble saving, I had the exact same problem. However, have you tried saving the game in slot 5? Because for some reason, it actually saves the game if you save it in slot 5. Hope that helps.

PS this game is way cool.

Just tried saving in other slots, and slots 2, 3 and 4 also work.

bobinator1992 20-07-2008 08:10 AM

Hey, I was wondering...

I don't think there's any way to kill yourself in this game. So, if you run out of fuel and get stuck in a pit, is there any way to get out or are you stuck forever?

The Fifth Horseman 20-07-2008 10:03 AM

'Fraid so.

Froi 19-03-2009 07:15 PM

i like it to much

Just another Duke Nukem clon.

AlumiuN 12-04-2009 03:30 AM

Yes, but having said that, a clone of a good game is surely a good game?

I'm not saying this is a bad game I'm just saying I won't waste time playing it when Duke Nukem 1, 2 & 3D exist and I haven't finished them. :minigun:

Reidalander 17-12-2013 05:50 PM

Man, I totally forgot about this little gem. I rememeber now, playing it in the "shareware 50" games pack. It was fun back then. I wonder if it's fun now, hmm?
