howdie pardners,

i recently downloaded Strike Commander from HOTU,

I read the problems about the memory and how to configure the DOSBOX,
So i got the installation running.
But now i encountered a problem i am absolutely unable to solve:

When the installation reaches disk 8 it suddenly crashes and the necessary sc.exe is not created, so i am unable to start the programm.

Any Suggestions ?

My Sys:

Athlon64 3000+
1GB DDR Dualcannel
Win XP SP1
MSI 6600GT

I recall that you needed a very recent version of dosbox.
not one released yet ? (some experimental build ?)

i´m using the newest dosbox version 0.63.

i read in some other forums that also other people encountered this problem, but found no solution for my problem.

it is obviously commonly known that SC is bitching around with the memory settings of dosbox.

may be somebody is willing to sen me the sc.exe via email to help me out. because i got all other files installed fine. its just that one IMPORTANT file missing. :ranting:

sc.exe can't be send i think as it's a created file and might be depended on your selections

What OS? I'm assuming XP.

I had a lot of problems to get SC to work under DOSBox, but at least it did work.

I have original CD version of the game, and it is important that you've set CD rom properly. Can't remember which settings I had to do for CD rom, but at the end it worked. (there are couple ways to set CD rom, check dosbox manuals)

Actually the version i am using is not the CD-Version but the multizip version from HOTU.
Anyway am using WINXP. I will give the alternate dosbox a try, hope it works ....

using the alternate dosbox doesnt even start te installation. even worse than the original one. Any suggestions how to solve that missing SC.exe issue ?

EDIT:
tried the dosbox I pointed to.
Installed it with default settings (XMS and EMS true)
it complained about some lack of memory but it would continue.

Selected soundblaster only
Installed all disks (only the 8 regular disks) all in the same directory just pressing enter

genereated some maps(took a long while)
and that's it. game works.

I finally got the game installed. But i cant get it running as you described. The dosbox freezes and the it crashes.

Maybe i have to make some alterations to the dosbox config.

So what do i have to change ???

Step 1.Download the strike commander zip file.
Step 2.Make 2 folders under c:\
c:\disks and c:\strike

Step 3.Extract the zip file to c:\disks
Step 4.Extract all the zip files:

SCKEYS.ZIP to SCKEYS
SCSD_1.ZIP to SCSD_1
SCSD_2.ZIP to SCSD_2
SCSD_3.ZIP SCSD_3
SCTO1-1.ZIP to SCTO1-1
SCTO1-2.ZIP to SCTO1-2
SCTO1-3.ZIP to SCTO1-3
STRCOM_1.ZIP to STRCOM_1 and rename to disk1
STRCOM_2.ZIP to STRCOM_2 and rename to disk2
STRCOM_3.ZIP to STRCOM_3 and rename to disk3
STRCOM_4.ZIP to STRCOM_4 and rename to disk4
STRCOM_5.ZIP to STRCOM_5 and rename to disk5

Step 5.Using dosbox 0.73 do the following:
mount c c:\strike
mount a c:\disks
a:
cd STR_CRK
STRCRK.exe
"Disk used"= a:
cd disk1
install.exe
ignore the memmory error.
do not make a boot disk.
Leave everything else as default
Press enter for each disk.
Map generation takes a long time
