Whee! It's up! :w00t: Can't wait to play it.

Sebatianos 11-11-2005 10:18 AM

Oh, you can also set the machine to hercules (that's B/W only), but you'll only see menues, without any graphical decoration... and the screenshots came out a bit wrong - there's not shadeing around the edges (that happened when I tried to resize them).

Have fun with this one! :ok:

Blood-Pigggy 11-11-2005 03:39 PM

Played this two years ago from another site.
It's just not my kind of game.
No matter how long I play, I'm always bored.

But I understand it's very good otherwise, I can see it's merits, but I lack to ability to gain any entertainment from it.

A. J. Raffles 11-11-2005 04:26 PM

To be quite honest, the only reason why I'm so keen on this one is that I'm a raving fan of the series...

Guest 11-11-2005 06:07 PM

The series (Yes, Minister + Yes, PM ) were quite good, but the game is lame. This was done on the good old days where games were original and no one was afraid of trying out. Now it's a ton of FPS and RTS and little more.

Mike_fields 11-11-2005 09:30 PM

ah a very old game well i think i'll enjoy playing it :Brain:

Master MC 12-11-2005 12:08 AM

Hidden Agenda is much more realistic.

Evidently, you've never seen the show.

Not only is it the single greatest comedy series ever made, it's also frighteningly realistic. Margaret Thatcher (the real PM at the time) was a big fan.

A. J. Raffles 12-11-2005 07:58 PM

Still haven't been able to try it yet - stupid essays...<_< Is it true that there are two faces for Jim Hacker? *snigger*

This is a lot funnier than that game! I just wanna play it because it'll have lines that won't be in the Tv series! (I think)

athcnv 13-11-2005 10:13 PM

Er...is there something wrong with the download? I can't seem to get it to work.

Did you check your graphics settings in DOSBox?

tomf 14-11-2005 05:35 AM

is there any way to use the mouse in this game

Blank_box 14-11-2005 10:04 AM

It's shame... I don't know how to save it...

I think you can only save at the end of a day.

By the way, is it just me or does the game have a tendency to crash on Tuesday?

Sebatianos 15-11-2005 03:30 PM

Never happend to me... Strange. Maybe you should try running it in the hercules mode (it may got something to do with running it in DOSBox in tandy mode although I had no problems).

A. J. Raffles 15-11-2005 04:26 PM

I've tried every single mode available in DOSBox, actually, but it doesn't make any difference. When I give certain answers (for example "Persuade them to withdraw" during the PRATS meeting on Tuesday), the game just freezes, which is a bit annoying.

Shrek 15-11-2005 04:38 PM

Maybe you aren't supposed to "persuade" anyone :tomato:

It's the correct decision, though...

A. J. Raffles 16-11-2005 12:17 PM

Sorry to double-post yet again, but is really nobody else experiencing this problem? I've tried two different versions of DOSBox, the DOS command promt and restarting in DOS mode (I'm running Windows 98), and the game ALWAYS freezes at these points.:(

MFreder2 17-11-2005 08:41 AM

I'd register but i don't see myself posting that much. But anyway i have the same problem with this game. It always freezes at the same points.

It's got nothing to do with the decision...

Are you by any chance using D-fend to play it?
I was just running the game in D-fend and it froze on two seperate places (both on Tuesday). Maybe you should try pure DOS or DOSBox without any tools (at least that's how I was able to play for two weeks - in game weeks).

A. J. Raffles 17-11-2005 04:22 PM

No, I'm not using D-fend. I've tried both pure DOS and DOSBox and I get exactly the same result for both.

Sebatianos 17-11-2005 04:29 PM

That's really odd. Sorry but I can't help you there... There's a new version of DOSBox comming out soon - hopefully that will do the trick.

No it won't.:( I've spoken to Qbix about it (well, not literally, obviously - on AR), and he says the game seems to be doing something funny which he calls "string magic" - God knows what he means by that exactly, but it appears to be a problem that can't be fixed just like that.
What's odd, though, is that you're not having this problem.

Sebatianos 17-11-2005 04:44 PM

Well after running the game for the first time on the PC I didn't experiance any trouble. Like I said - I made it to the end of the second week, without any technical problems. I didn't play it anymore after that - but I did run it through D-fend now, when you mentioned your problem. It did freeze (but at different random points always on Tuesday). I'll give it another go in the DOSBox (I'll try to set everything the way it was the time I was able to play and let you know).

A. J. Raffles 17-11-2005 05:00 PM

Oh, so the game doesn't actually have to end after the first week, then?

Sebatianos 17-11-2005 05:14 PM

Why would it? But it does simply repeat itself...

Well, it always ended after the first week for me. I think.

athcnv 17-11-2005 07:36 PM

I've got the PRATS problem on tuesday as well. I think (haven't tried it yet) that you can just sit in your office and click on the clock. (This speeds up time - it should be able to speed you past so you miss your meeting - hopefully).

As for the game, I think it's only supposed to last for 1 week. Though the random events change.

Mind you, I wish the telex machine printed faster!

Oh, just clicking on the clock works fine, I've tried it. It's a bit frustrating, though, as you're missing out on the opportunity to gain a few more popularity points on that day...

Sebatianos 17-11-2005 08:17 PM

Well like I said - after the first week it simply repeats itself (you get to play the game again - that's the second week - week 1 all over again).

Hmm... I guess it's possible I missed that meeting out twice (that's why it didn't freeze when I played the game through).

athcnv 19-11-2005 02:46 AM

Ok, you don't have to miss all of the Tuesday stuff. You can answer the phones and that buzzer device, and you can go and see Sir Humprey when he phones or buzzes you to see him about the Monrovia problem. Just don't see anyone about anything else! (the scheduled 9.20 PRATS thing, the unscheduled 1200 meeting about the fight in the Commons between a backbencher and the leader of the opposition, and the other thing (CEGB meeting?) scheduled for the afternoon). The first 2 cause a crash/freeze - dunno about the 3rd tho (can't be bothered to try it)

Also, what's everyone's best scores? I managed 76% (or was it 78%)?

Anyone made a walkthrough? I've found some of the good answers (though some questions have more than one "correct" route, I think.

Oh yes, and if the French say that we have to rename Waterloo Station, remember to click thats "preposterous", and not "not unreasonable"!

Ps: The approval rating doesn't seem to fall below 2%
Pps: If you just sit in your office clicking on the clock all day, nothing happens to your approval rating!

Sir Humphrey: He has his own car, a nice house in London, a place in the country, endless publicity and a pension for life, what more does he want?
Bernard: To govern Britain.
Sir Humphrey: Well stop him, Bernard!

athcnv 19-11-2005 02:49 AM

Actually, the quote I wanted to use in relation to you doing nothing not affecting your score was....

Sir Humphrey: Her Majesty does like the business of government to continue even when there are no politicians around.
Jim: Bit difficult surely?
Sir Humphrey: Yes .... and no.

:D Open Government (Yes Minister First Episode).

A. J. Raffles 19-11-2005 08:34 AM

So it doesn't crash on any other day then? Great. I'll have another go at it then.
Actually this game reminds me a lot of the books.

A. J. Raffles 20-11-2005 12:35 PM

78%, yay! That's a lot more popular than Tony Blair, I bet.:D

The game still always ends after week 1, though.

Sebatianos 20-11-2005 04:24 PM

Well there should be an option to replay... then you'd play it all over again (strange - I have to check when I last played the C64 version, hopefully my review wasn't based entirely on that one... My memory seems to be fading lately...).

Well, obviously I can start over, but then I'll be starting on 1 April again, with 50% popularity...

You can't. Just use the arrow keys.

tomf 04-12-2005 07:16 AM

But the game says that you can use a amstrad mouse (or is it ibm) any way can I somehow emulate one of them using my normal mouse

I suppose you've already tried what it says in the readme file?
Quote:

Q: The mouse doesn't work.
A: Normally DOSBox detects the mouse being used by a game. If you click on
* the screen then it should get locked (confined to the DOSBox window)
* and work. Sometimes the DOSBox mouse detection doesn't work with certain
* games. You might have to force to lock the mouse then with ctrl-F10.

Anyway, even if it doesn't work, you don't really need a mouse for this game.

Guest 19-06-2006 03:19 PM

the game won't let me go to the brewer's meeting. What do you select to go there?
