Joins in the laughter (that's one of your best comments FPJ :ok: ).
Seriously... if this guy can set up such a page - he could raise the money to visit his GF by now...
Still I think that link should be removed, not to sucker anybody into actually giving him any money, so can you please do a little editing SupSuper?

Who knows? Maybe he started the topic in the first place because he actually wanted someone to donate?

Puffin 18-11-2005 11:05 PM

Sorry, but I'm myself saving money to visit a good friend on December 17th :)
Good luck!

Now that's an odd idea... or simply uderestimating the members (or overestimating their naive generosity). :sneaky:

moogle 18-11-2005 11:17 PM

Man, the rabit guy is more compelling... I mean, the rabbit is so cute!!! Even though the guys probly lying about eating him...(I hope!) I kinda feel sorry for the GF guy, so far he has no money LOL.

BeefontheBone 19-11-2005 06:56 AM

I'd love to help out, but an Omani sheik just emailed me - apparently he's got a small fortune in inheritance tied up which he's willing to share with me if I provide him my bank details so he can pay the costs to get through the red tape, so I'm going to have to wait until that's sorted out before I can help this guy.

Oh, but afterwards you'll have lots more to donate, obviously. So that's all right, then.

Edit: by the way, maybe we ought to cut down on the silly jokes a bit. Unless I'm very much mistaken, the guy who made that site is SupSuper...

Tulac 19-11-2005 09:40 AM

I would have a better idea on how to raise money, but I'll keep it to my own greedy self :P
Anyway I can't donate since we don't have paypal here, but good luck :ok:

You're not mistaken. But since I'm a nice guy and don't want to get banned I'll just ignore all the jokes and carry on with my life. Close this if you wish.

Gits.

Havell 19-11-2005 02:40 PM

C'mon, don't take it too hard. Noone's going to ban you. It's just that advertising without permission from admins is prohibited. Try PMing an admin (one of the nice, sympathetic ones). Oh, and good luck on your quest (I'm broke btw).

Hmm, sorry if I've offended you, SupSuper, but (no offence) as far as I'm concerned, your request is not all that different from that rabbit guy's. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I disbelieve your story, but let's face it: you are a complete stranger to me, which, in a nutshell, is why I'd rather not be involved in this sort of thing. I do consider myself a nice person in general, but in my opinion, giving money to complete strangers so they can visit their girlfriends is not nice, it's unreasonable. And that does not make me a git. Well, strictly speaking, I couldn't be a git anyway, as gits are usually male, but I hope you see my point.

BeefontheBone 19-11-2005 04:45 PM

Sorry, didn't realise that was actually you there - AJ has a point though.

Incidentally, what's the definition of a git?

I dunno, a british friend of mine uses the term, so I gave it a go.

Incidentally, I'm sorry for not taking the jokes lightly. I know it's a pretty crazy and far-fetched for me to expect me to make any money out of that, but when I see people getting money for not eating their pet rabbit, smashing a iPod or even smashing a PS3, Xbox360 and Revolution (links not meant as advertising, rather to prove how I'm not just making this up) which aren't even out yet, it just makes it look a lot less crazy. I guess I need to find something to smash on video :P

:ot: It's very vague, actually. The OED has "In contemptuous use: a worthless person" and the Concise Oxford Dictionary has "Brit. informal an unpleasant or contemptible person."
The ethymology of the word is really interesting: the spelling "git" seems to be fairly recent, but the variation "get" reaches back to the early 16th century. The definition of "get" is given as "orig. Sc. and north. In contemptuous use = brat. Also spec. a bastard; hence as a general term of abuse: a fool, idiot."

But as far as I know, the word is only used with reference to males. Sort of like the counterpart to "bitch", I suppose.:)

@SupSuper: You could start small by mashing potatoes and then move on to watches and average-sized electronic equipment.;)

Sean 19-11-2005 09:45 PM

How about you smash all your crappy ideas to bits?

Joke.

I advise smashing a window.

With a potatoe.

Football, you mean.:max:

Sebatianos 20-11-2005 09:05 AM

Hey, SupSuper...
You have to realize something. Nobody wanted to offend you, but the thing is, that when somebody is traying to raise money by asking complete strangers over the net to contribute, it's bound to turn out badly. People simply don't have too much money, nor do they really care about unknow people how have certain wishes. The thing is, there are other way of getting the money.
But tell me, aren't you a bit too young to start travelling the globe in order to meet a girlfriend?
I mean, 16 is a bit early to do so...

Hold On! :omg:

We have weird spelling? It's our language - if you want to mess around with it that's fine but don't tell us our spellings our weird! :D LOL

But thanks - we do have awesome words, brilliant comedians and football - though personally I prefer the game the rest of the world knows as American Football! :D

Danny252 20-11-2005 09:43 AM

"American" Football, IMO, is wimpy rugby. More of less the same, except they wear armour because they're oh-so-scared of gettung injuries. Pah!

They also stop for a rest every 20 seconds. And they wear incredibly tight trousers and bend over in front of each other. Plus there's all that other stuff about repressed homoeroticism.

It's also a far more strategic game than most, certainly more strategic than rugby or football - but we're :ot:

The only good thing about American Football is watcheing them get hammered and dropped on their necks and so forth.

And I can't really see this topic going much further.

You did? How come you don't say so on your website?

Anyway, assuming you do manage to get the money, don't you think you also need to take care of a few insignificant little details like... telling her? She might not even be home for Christmas but off to visit relatives in Indiana or something like that. Even if she is home, she may be pleasantly surprised to find a stranger on her doorstep crying "ta-daah, it's me, the virtual love of your life!" - but then again she may not. And if you really do plan on going, you'd also need to take care of accommodation, because you can't just assume you'll be able to stay with her for two weeks if you 1) haven't even told her you're coming over and 2) don't know about her living conditions. If she's a minor too, she will probably be living with her parents who may be somewhat alarmed to find that their little daughter is getting a surprise visit from some random stranger who she met through *gasp* the internet and who claims to be in love with her. Not to mention that they might not actually have room for you to stay.

Not to discourage you, but if you're really serious about this, you'll have to plan things through a bit more carefully to save yourself some disappointment...

And what makes you think I haven't told her? And what makes you think I haven't planned it? I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid ;)

In fact, one of the reasons I've decided to NOT take the website down is because she loved it :D

The reason I still haven't updated the website is because my dad took the RAM from my computer (the git :P ) so I'm forced to use every computer EXCEPT my own, but I'll see what I can manage.

A. J. Raffles 22-11-2005 03:41 PM
