Fox News
This is not the only (p)review of the Xbox 360 that claims it is better to wait then purchase straight away. Basically the reasoning is that the hidden cost drive up prices to unreasonable levels. I was not going to buy this anyway but for those interrested it is something to think about. |
Heh.. I am still going to get one if I can.
For all the bad reports you find theres just as many good ones. Just look around. |
I agree totally with that article!
As I said in another topic: don't buy the Xbox and save your money (and your spare time) for something better  :tomato: |
To be fair it does not say to never buy one, it says to wait until prices drop.
|
Hardly a reputable source for games information though...
|
Why wait?
A few ?'s cheaper? I'd much rather pay a little more and be able to talk about my cool xmas present than say ... nah I didn't get one because I think its slightly overpriced. I doubt I'll get one for Xmas even if I try... they have a very small amount of stock to ship out to stores. |

I'm buying one.
I agree with the article, but that's because ALL consoles are overpriced at first (unless it's Nintendo, I love Nintendo, they make things so cheap). But it's better to have one now I think. Although I do see the reasoning behind waiting until prices drop. |
This why I like nintendo. Sure, they may be underpowered, cater to the whole family, but they're never forcing me to buy a new TV.
|
Exactly right it's not always best to buy a console right away, sometimes best to wait a year and by then already you got excellent games to choose from and the price for the system has gone down, course with nintendo that's always the exception why I will always support them, plus not paying 500 bucks for the X-Box 360 will cost me if I were to buy it now.
|
Your not being forced to buy a new TV Midgey!
|
I'm gonna go with Revolution, then PS3, no XBOX360 crap :)

I will get a 360 this christmas and depending on the PS3 possibly one of thoose next christmas. It is worth having both consoles but finances don't take such a kind view on such matters.
|
True enough I can understand the argument of so not to miss anything on both consoles but I look at it this way, for 3rd party games, ps3 will have them and any big games the x-box 360 will have there's a freakin good chance it'll end up on the pc like it's shown with Halo or Knights of the Old Republic.
|
Yea, I actually still wonder why they tote Halo so high on the XBox, still. I have it on PC. It's faster, easier to play, the multiplayer is more fun, etc.
I dunno, the only next gen console that's got my attention is the Rev. |

It was generally thought that the X-Box version was much cleaner, there were no frame-rate problems, and it wasn't easier to play, to add on to that, many people thought the multiplayer was glitchy and problematic. For some reason, the morons decided that PC Halo would be better off WITHOUT co-op on the big wide web, which was a completely stupid move. The big reason was actually that there was absolutly nothing new, two new weapons that weren't that great, and one new vehicle in multiplayer. I own the PC version, only played the X-Box version at other peoples houses. It's better to own a PC version if you don't have the X-Box one, but to charge 50 dollars for a game that was already 20 bucks on the X-Box for little to nothing new at all was a bit of a rip-off. Again, not my opinion, just what the general public thought, and the reason the X-Box Halo remained king of the platform. |
The whole deciding factor for me was just the fact that I could barely aim with the XBox controller. Lack of co-op sucked to be sure, and I didn't pick it up for PC until it was dirt cheap, I'm not going to buy an FPS at full price (the only exception to that being Half Life).
|
I found it easy enough to aim with the X-Box controller.
But that's only until they decided to bring the Japanese version of the controller over to the US, those big hunky things were horrid. |
I was taking on either the ground or the sky for most of our epic battles on that machine.
|
Heh.
Gentle movements, that's the key. Or turn down the sensitivety. Huh? That ryhmed  . |
Sorry, but I have to say this...
Hahahah!!! Eat it piggy ;) bwhaha. |
Eat what?
It really doesn't matter, no one is going to care about this report, because everyone has pre-ordered a X-Box already, in fact, they're all sold out. So in your own words, eat it. |
Keep it clean people or this topic will be locked and flamers warned.
|
Sightly overpriced?
Sheesh people, I never bought an Xbox, GameCube or PlayStation II because I always said that a console higher than around 100$ (with the controls and at least one game) is way too pricey for what it gives... Now, the new consoles are around 500$ right now... Slightly overpriced you say? I say stupidly outragously pricey! |
I agree.
|
Well 500 bucks it's going to cost me in Canadian dollars a little cheaper for people in the states but yes is expensive and rumours are going around the ps3 will be pretty expensive but in comparison to getting a true gaming pc with all the bells and whistles optimized for gaming that prob will cost you at least 3000 bucks it's not so bad.

Maybe now the GameCube has a right price... |
I tried one (call of duty 2) and all I have to say is that I will wait for PS3. :D
Will not get revolution because of that uggly gamepad. |
The only console I have ever owned was a Sega Mega Drive 2. Marvelous thing that was too. It may still work.
I don't bother with consoles. By the time I get one they'll have made a new one and then I'll have spent my money for nothing. |
XBOX-360 is made by Microsoft.
So I don't buy it :) |
You copy it? LOL
@Iron_Scarecrow - I use consoles for two reasons: collector (sick :)) can't upgrade PC as much as games change requirements At the moment I got: Sega Genesis/Megadrive 2 (still works, got ~70 games so far) Sega Dreamcast (great console, perfect to play PD stuff) Sony PS Sony PS2 Nintendo GC and of handhelds: Sega GameGear (EU version) Nintendo GBA SP I had N64, but had a lot of problems with catridges, so I returned it. |

And I hate having to keep up the ever increasing power of computers, but we only got a computer cause I need it for school, and then someone leant me a few games and it went from there. |
It's cheaper to get a new console than upgrade your PC.
|
Yeah but I've got a PC, I don't want to have to do it for both. And like I said I needed the PC for my schoolwork and then I just got caught up in all this gaming and upgrading.
|
All of this also depends on propriatory games.
I purchased NGC just to be able to play games such as F-Zero and Metroid. None of those games will be made for other consoles or computer. Same goes with Tekken and FF games (except FF XI - which I don't have) Now that they will lower price of XBox, I'm thinking to get it just to get some of propriatory games for it too. . :D I forgot third reason I like consoles. It is nice to play games in living room on bigger screen. :D |

I have...
Nintendo64 (Limited Edition Transparent Blue) 15-25 Games PlayStation1 (Original & Broken) PS1 (The smaller white thing) Around 50-100 PS1 Games. Playstation2 (Slightly faulty but works pretty well) PS2Slim Around 40 Games. Xbox (Original & Broken) Xbox Crystal Around 20-50 Games. My main reason for trying to get my hands on a 360 is the fact that since buying a Xbox it has become dominant over my PS2 nearly ALL of my latest purchases are for the Xbox. If I had the capability of getting a decent PC and keeping it upgraded I would do that. However it's not something I can do so I choose to get a console or 4 and play them for 3/4 years until the new next gen console makes its rounds. If you are still not convinced take a look at one of my other reasons behind purchasing this console http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/...4110012999.jpg Mass Effect Like Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire, Mass Effect is a squad-based RPG, so you'll travel around in a trio, but you'll have command of a space vessel and its crew. You're a military authority, and it's your task to raise humanity to the pinnacle of its galactic civilization. Sounds a little like Star Trek, perhaps a little like Too Human. But the key is how you go about achieving this hefty task. Do you want to achieve it in an evil way, or in an heroic way? A third choice is to take a profiteering approach, which is a wiggly in-between gray area. Somewhat like Fable, the decisions you make have massive effects (get it?) on the world around you. Two of the game's key themes are organic life vs. artificial life and nature vs. technology. As you and your crew learn, the more advanced artificial life living in distant solar systems have plans for you that are, shall we say, not so pretty. BioWare asks the question, "What would happen if we explored deep into the far reaches of the galaxy and found civilizations that are vastly more advanced than ours? What would they do with us if their intentions weren't all that altruistic?" As the lead character, which you create from the beginning and enhance and alter throughout, you come to the realization that humankind and this other, more advanced AI civilization, cannot co-exist. ''Making its debut at X05 in Amsterdam, BioWare showed us a quick video and then delved into great detail on the goals it has for the first in a three-part action-RPG.'' Mine!
NeoGeo Sega Genesis Sega Master System Sega Saturn (Yes, I am a Sega fan) Sega Dreamcast (I wasted alot of money on this, since it went under) Nintendo Super Nintendo Nintendo 64 GameCube Playstation (I have yet to own the second) X-Box Gameboy Gameboy Pocket Gameboy Color Gameboy Advance Nintendo DS Virtual Boy (It's worth alot, but I can't bring myself to sell it!) That's about it. I test them out every now and then, and the only one that doesn't work is the Gameboy Pocket, but it was never that great anyway. I keep all this stuff stacked in boxes in the basement. (Most of the consoles come from give-aways, garage sales, hand-me-downs, buying them from a friend, and only a few are actually storebought) P.S. - Omfgzors! Almost forgot the Atari 2600, and the Intellivision! |
Here is my huge list of video game systems.
Nintendo DS. Two games for it, Ridge Racer and Advanced Wars DS. The first is a bit annoying but ok (-ish), the second is amazing fun for such a small thing. I would love to see a civ game for the DS. |
Consoles I have
(all working :D ) Atari 2600 5200 7800 Atari Jaguar Atari Linx Sega saturn Sega Genesis Sega megadrive SNES NES N64 Gamecube PS2 Intellivision Virtual Boy Gameboy GameboyColor Gameboy advance PS1 Dream Cast Dolphin Bandai G&W Sega Gamegear Sega Mastersystem Someother stuff lieing around Im not selling any of this stuff, its too fun, although the VBoy burns my eyes  |
Im buying the ps3 because it is cross compatible for 3 great generations of systems (ps1, ps2 and ps3) I also want it because thats what Metal gear solid 4 is coming out on.
|
Aye, MGS4 looks good, but Rev can play nes snes n64 NGC rev, and maybe GB GBC GBA and even possibly DS. Nice if they allow Virtual boy, too

@Sean, JimmyJ, Blood-Pigggy and TheGiantMidgit:
Great collection of consoles. That's something I like to have too. :) Also I am looking into getting some old computers (Not PCs) such as C64, ZX SPectrum, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST and Amiga500. Last night I saw on G4 some crazy (lost) souls who waited 24 hours for midnight sales of xbox360. Prices here are 300 bucks for regular, 400 bucks for extended version and games prices start anywhere from 50 bucks. As I already said, I tried it, and I did not like controls of COD2. (this game should be played with mouse, not gamepad) I would like to check perfect dark zero, which confuses me, as I believed that nintendo was behind perfect dark. (n64 title - great game) |
Everytime a new console comes out itīs better to wait a year or two. For one reason
there arenīt much games for a new system. For another its huge price ( as you mentioned above). By the way, I donīt think that itīs clever to buy the newest PC- hardware, either. |
The original Perfect Dark (which I have.. yay!) was for the nintendo64.
The company behind it and Goldeneye are Rare and they are the ones making the sequel PD:Zero. |
Problem is most of the team who worked on Goldeneye and Perfect Dark left Rare and went to either Free Radical and another company forget the name.
|
Free Radical has produced some good games at least, Second Sight, and all the Timesplitters games (except for the first, which was crappy).
|
Still havent seen anyone who owned the aniga cd32, oh wait, I did!!!
hehe awesome console, the first version of ufo enemy unknown any one (well that i know of)?!?!? And the first worms i ever saw, although i lost my copyright protection manual after about a month so couldnt play it anymore  J |
