My hero "Mr Miyagi", aka. Patt Morita, has passed on this 25th day of November, 2005.
I will always have fond memories of him. I will alwyas remember his excelent portrayal of O'sensei Miyagi Chogun, who incidentally was actually a real historical figure in karate heritage. May he r.i.p. |
I guess he's gotten a kid to do his chores for him for the final time. Wax on, Wax off...

He was also in Happy Days, shop owner I believe.
|
Noooooooooo!
now how will I defeat the bully, bmx, tough kids from the rival dojo!!!!!! Rest in peace, kind sir. |
For anyone interested, here is a great run-down on karate history, which talks about Miyagi(the real one). This site represents my first karate club. If you watch in the movies, you can even see the same emblem of the half closed fist that GoJu Ryu uses.

Anyway, he had a rich filmography. His death will be a loss for the film industry. And Abi - run to the nearest video/DVD renatl and get all four Karate Kid movies (the 2nd is by far the best). |
@Sebastianos (you know there are people with the name Sebastian in my country, so when I see sebatianos I get crazy :D ): I don't have a video/DVD player :(
|
He has become one with the Force....I will always remember those movies from my childhood.
|
Who?
Edit: Nevermind. |
I thought there were only 3 movies.
|
The fourth one was The Next Karate Kid, where he trained Hilary Swank (who later became The Million Dollar Baby).
|
yeah, it also sucked according to general opinion.
|
I hated the Karate Kid movies.. they sucked IMO...
but still, RIP.. |

You misunderstood. I liked the first 3 films, but the fourth one just seemed like a cash-in attempt. Other people that i've asked about the series didn't like it as much either.

The fourth movie has almost nothing in common with the first three! So if people who loved the first three movies thought this would pick up where the other movies left off - they'd really be dissapointed. It's a good movie, but a completely different genre. You need to watch it as a seperate movie, not as the next of the Karate Kid movies, so the title really was a poor attempt of trying to cash-in on the fame of the first three movies. |
Then how could it take the name?
|
Because of Pat Morita - he stared in the Next Karate Kid and he refers to the experiance while training Daniel.
But basically it's a story of a troubled girl having problems and was left in the care of Mr. Miyagi - because her mother and he were friends and the mother went away. It includes some karate action as well. |
Two minutes silence for Mr Miyagi. May he rest in peace.

According to IMDb Pat died on 24th November. He really was great actor. :( Will miss him.... |
Well, I'm not really familiar with this actor, though I saw Karate Kid (ages ago).
R.I.P. In nomine patris et fili et sipitus sancti. Amen. |
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
That being said, however, my point carries over to the 4th movie as well. I believe that we are all teachers and students through-out our entire life. I am intrinsically drawn to this dynamic. The 4th movie really shows the depth of Miyagi sensei. The true test of a teacher is reading his student, and deciding how to make him/her step through the door of understanding. The two protege characters were separated by quite a polarity. I also have to say, Hillary Swank's character, although harder for me to relate to, played a much more convincing role then Ralph Macchio did. That being said, I much prefer the first and second movies, the former more so I suppose. Cnn said 25th, but both are hardly reliable sources ;) http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews...ip/13255945.htm |
