We've taken it OFFLINE for now, as some users (or visitors) can't manage to use it in an adult manner.

It WILL stay offline until a sollution to the problem has been reached.

If some people can´t have manner, they need to be punished, but why all ( the largest group), that don´t make any problem be punish,?

When the abusers are using proxies and have different IP's every time, it would be nearly impossible to nail the guilty once, and would just ressult in innosent ppl getting locked out..

Shoutbox is a privilige, not a right..

It's a shame that this had to happen.
A few people have ruined it for the majority.

When those few users so heavily abuses the function, there is not much of an option realy.

Thats a shame.If I found out who was doing it I would come straight to the staff of the site.If you have the user IP address evertime it is displayed check out who it is and where the live using programs you can get to find out for you.

That's what they have at lemon64 (C64 site). Works fine.

We are intending to return the shoutbox in due course but for now (and for now is is weeks if not a few months) it will remain off line.

yah. only sandbox with usernames is ok.

otherwise people just troll. and it's easy. childish trolls... if we had username then they couldn't "play" in the abandonia sandbox.

you know, maybe sometimes you think that your question or thought can be considered as spam, or you want something that could have been answered already but you wasnt lucky in search function. or just when you are not sure if it is or it is not worth to make new thread then you just type it in shout box

What it shouldn't be used for, and what it has been used for, is impersonating others, spamming with hotdog songs, or worse:

Such spam. A shoutbox's a good thing, if it's used responsibly. The way it's been used lately, though, is abusing a privilege that's been given. As some can't seem to use it in a mature, responsible way, that privilege gets taken away. If those who think that did use it responsibly want to settle this, they should settle it with those that abused it, so they'll behave from now on.

Small problem. I agree with you on the shoutbox being a privilege and that it has been taken away... But how can a regular member settle something with a guest (or even another member for that matter).

I know I have a few addresses, but I won't go around with baseball bats beating every shoutbox spamer into a pulp (although the people that I have the addresses off aren't the shoutbox spamers). The only way something like that could happen would be if there was a shoutbox mod/admin or something...

Not to mention we don't actually know who is responsible for all of this anyway, seriously I think that a shoutbox where only members can post under their real nickname could work...

We (the Admins) agree with you but it will take time to implement that.

We'r building a new SB allready, but it's in the Alpha-stages now, so it will be online "When it's ready".. not before.

On the old one you had to highlight the text you were typing to see it when you were typing up your message. Fix it if you can please.

It's great to hear the shoutbox is coming again. I will definitely use it more. But can you maybe add something in it that registered users can only use the name they're registered under and not chose any other names?
