Yup. There are other sites out there, trying to do the same thing as Abandonia: Grow into biggest page in this scene. Lets see who are also trying to preserve the memory of the old-games.

XTC Abandonware
They have a good collection, including lots of Crypt games that Abandonians are too scared to review. ;)

Flashback Abandonware
A simple site, with good collection of games. Theyre one of the cleanest sites and the color is cool. However, the site has been dead for a while.

Abandonware France
Another basic site with somewhat good collection. However, usually on people from France speak French.

Abandonware Filez
A good page with lots of very old games.

C-Dos Abandonware
A site with dozens of games. There's also a pointing system where reviewers get points (I dont know why). However, many people are so lazy, so every game doesnt have review.

Abandoneer
One of our "allies". Sadly, its a small page and it doesnt have many games. However, they have Maid's Story :brain:

Home of the Underdogs
The Grand-daddy of us all. Thanks to the Underdogs, the Abandonware scene is still alive and it inspired for many other sites. However, its currently dead and filled with thousands of games and adds.

There are also two other pages I want to mention. The Abandoned Gamesroom was an awesome page, which did something very dangerous: they only hosted classic LucasArts and Sierra games. They were good, however and now theyre dead (altought there is a talk about reborn).

Another good site is the Girls of Abandonware, a page dedicated to Erotic games. They have a very nice system, where a member can simply add a game into the site by uploading it and filling a form.

EDIT: Okay, its a small list, but these are my usual or long time favourites.

Oh, and links removed. No instructions on how to get on those sites. Just talk about other sites.

Ehm... My dear wrestling buddy...

I'd like to point out a few problems with your post...

A. We already have such a list on the main site... We're linking to all the sites that have links to us as well, so Abandonia is not a solo act, it's a part of the Abandonware comunity.

B. Abandonia does not want any links to games that should not be downloaded, so sites that have exclusevly LucasArts and Sierra games would be a big NONO.

C. Even some respectable sites might have games that shouldn't be there, so I'm not sure if linking to those sites is a good idea in the first place.

Apart from that - you've missed a few very good sites (some dead some alive). My personal favourite would have to be A-for-Adventures (I just love classical adventure games), but they don't offer any downloads, they have just dedicated themselves to keeping the memory of great grand adventures alive (even new-er ones).

The topics main purpose is not to post as many links as possible to other abandonware-sites, but to talk about other sites. But yeah, I better remove the links before I get punished or something.

Abandonia is the best because had many languages!

Well, personally I like XTC site and I still regularly visit HOTU, despise their adds and slowness... There are some other sites I like as well and are not mentioned on your list. Above all there would be Retrograde Station - a great site devoted to real classics, the games that were on boot disks (like Ghostbusters, One on One, Spy vs. Spy, Quest for Tyres...).

Tulac 31-03-2007 04:08 PM

Hmm HotU is kind of problematic for me since it doesn't let me download, otherwise I don't use other abandonware sites. Really, really long ago I used to visit www.classic-trash.com which hasn't been working for quite some time.

EDIT: Hmm that site seems to be back up again.

The best abandonware site:
World of Spectrum the official world archive for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum and the largest on-line gaming center on the Internet.
(Current count: 14,467 unique titles)

Speccy rules all! :bleh:

Couldn't agree more. :w00t:

Another good site is DosGames.com. It has lots of good old Dos games. :ok:
