I like to play the old RPGs of the ADandD Series but in more than a half of them
i cant save my created charackters. Instead of this i cant play them.. :sos: But you have to know that there is no Floppy Disk Drive in my Pc..Could this be the problem? Can anyone tell me what i can do? Please Help me... P.S. Sorry if my english isnt so good Nice greetings and big respekt for this great site.. Pascal Br. |
In some downloaded games you need to manually create s savegame folder. Problem here is that you won't easily know the needed name for that folder. If there are no savegame folder in the game directory, try create some and name them save, saves, savegame, savegames or similar.
Other than that, if the game is really old, I believe floppies are the only option. Have you run the setup or install exes to see if you can change the save path there? Also, for a few games you can set the save path in-game, but I guess you already looked into that. PS It would help if we knew what games you are talking about. |

think his thread title has a clue: "Champions Of Krynn" |
Yes, but what about "games like..."? I can't read minds so it would be better if people wrote exactly what games they are talking about. Every game may need a different approach, that's what I mean.

Oh, and one final question... are you using DOSBox to run the games? |
Some old games created the savegame files themselves prior to playing to make sure that there was place on the HD for those savegame files, or simply for organisation.
Some archivers, for a reason well beyond my understanding, seem to flag all the files they have unzipped as archive files. Those files can't be overwritten since they are read-only. This prevents the game to save the game since in this case the game don't try to create a new savegame file but to overwrite the existing ones. Try to remove both the archive flag and the read-only file from all the files of the game. |
At first, many, many thanks to all of you.... :ok:

***** SAVE GAME ERROR FIXED *****
IF YOU DID PUT CHAMPIONS OF KRYNN INTO C:\COK AND YOU USE DOSBOX RUN DOSBOX: MOUNT C C:\COK THEN YOU EDIT YOUR KRYNN.CFG FILE WITH NOTEPAD TO CHANGE THE PATH OF THE SAVE DIRECTORY FROM>> C:\COK\SAVE\ TO>> C:\SAVE [REMEMBER YOU MOUNTED C:\COK as C:\] |
Or if you happen to mount the smart way you would not have to change the Krynn.cfg at all.
Place Cok folder in a folder like Oldgames then mount as such. Mount c c:\oldgames C: Cd\Cok Hey look at that the c:\cok\save is now the correct path. |
