Finally, summer has begun! After a hellish year of studying (I usually spent 12 hours a weekday for school-stuff) I finally get a change to play some of my favourite games (Morrowind) and some games that I just bought (Pirates!, Shogun). But....

For the love of christ! My computer usage is limited!

The computer im using is a family computer. I do understand that other people want to use this but....for crying out loud! Im only allowed to use computer only 5 hours a day!

After much of debating with my mom, I could increase the time. For reasons such as:

1. There are other far more important things than computer
2. Im doing nothing else than playing video games
3. Its summer. Youre supposed to do other stuff

Aw come on! Im almost 17 years old! What Am I supposed to then?

1. Read books? I could, but I've read every interesting book I have
2. Go out? By myself? What should I do outside?
3. Meet friends? I could, but my best friends live over 20 km away from me.
4. Go to beach? I cant swim. And besides, im not a big fan of sunbathing.
5. Get a summerjob? I just spent half of my life in school and now I should get a job?!?

So Im asking, is this fair or is it just me?

You should pretty much do all these things, spending whole summer at PC would be a waste of life.

1. Go out and learn there are more of those interesting books

2. Meet people you haven't met before

3. See 2

4 Then go to anywhere but the beach

5. That's life

2. Meet people you haven't met before Icewolf: There are these beings commonly known as girls. Meet them. They will change your life.

3. See 2 Icewolf: :max:

4 Then go to anywhere but the beach Icewolf: Sports maybe?

5. That's life Icewolf: Oh yes... But you'll be happy when you have the money you made and noone else is to tell what to do or not to with it since you EARNED IT WITH YOUR OWN HANDS!!!! :titan: [/b]

Is it fair that your parents don't let spend more than 5 days in front of the computer?

Sorry but yes, if I had kids 5 hours would seem too much, at least for every single day.

:D You shold learn to swim! You can't do without that!

:D 20 km? In Finland? The whole country is flat, isn't it? It would take you less than one hour (half an hour at decent speed) to cover that distance on bike, you'll do exercise, your mom will be happy and you'll be healthy and nimble. You can visit your friends once a week or as you like --always provided you're invited of course.

:D Go to the library and if you're done with the novels you were recommended check the sections about topics that seem interesting, history, sexology, whatever.

:D You may still play for a couple of hours per day on average. Abandonia does not advise against playing computer games.

:D Etc. etc. etc.

It may seem sound unfair to you, but there's nothing really wrong with that. 5 hours a day is not a really short amount of time you know... just think back when there were 5 more hours untill school finishes - it took an eternaty.

1. Public library - I'm still glad my father regularly took me with him, so I always find it a great source of knowladge and excitement.
2. What's wrong with going out by yourself? Maybe do some cycling, hiking, jogging... and once outside there are bound to be other people you can meet.
3. 20km - that's about half an hour of a slow paced cycling, what's wrong with that? Besides the point you've made was to make friends - not to see old ones.
4. Can't swim? Don't wanna pressure you or anything, but did you ever consider learning it? It may acctually save your life one day, besides it's a really pleasent and relaxing activity.
5. If you get the summerjob you'll get your own money - if it's enough you can even get your own computer (depends what kind of a job, for how long you'll do it...) and if nothing else, then you won't have to take any attitude about keeping everybody else from the family computer. Not to mention you'll probably have some people with which you'll work, so you can meke new friends and stuff.

Besides - I know this will sound really nasty, but what's wrong with not doing anything? I mean spending some boring days without doing anything, just lazing around and relaxing can be very good for the body. It's a great stress relief and that's what the summer break should be (among other things).
