I have been thinking of formating my old celeron 500, 256 ram, and only install DOS and maybe win98.... But is it any point? gamewise I mean...
Or is it just as good to use DosBox in winxp on my brand new computer?

i'd say dos on the old computer, more compatability with the games, be sure to find a way of getting the games on your computer

can`t I just burn them on a cd or two? I suppose I need a old zip og rar version to unzip or unrar them again in dos...

you did mention installing 98 on there as well so if you install 98 and network that with the other pc, you can transfer the games and play that way :)

And installing DOS first.... then win98, and get a startup menu or something. It would be better than running DOSBOX wont it?

yeah, as dos didn't need much to run, dosbox needs a heavy system to run well

Use MSDos7.1. There is a CD ISO that you should use to install it, and then install Win98 on the top of that (for those old windows games).

But that comp is powerfull for dos, so you'll need to use programs to slow it down.

Also nice feature of MSDos7.1 is shutdown command, which you can use to shutdown or restart your computer. :D

Install win 98 insteed or 95

Instead??

He can have separate OSes (MSDos and Win98) on the same computer. There is couple of really nice features in MSDos7.1, and it's better then incomplete 95/98 version.

If you like to install 95/98, then there are couple of tutorials how to set up DOS under it. (There are some files you have to copy in command folder in windows dir)
