More space for games!

Is it possible that after all the redesigning, reprogramming and renewing of abandonia there shall be more space for games?

I'm talking about increasing the limit of game archive which is currently 100MB. Maybe we could put some bigger stuff "on site" not only in forum's ISO cellar. Or create a new rule - if a game is in the cellar - we can put a review on main site and link it to the cellar (this option was probably discussed earlier here).

Since we are going forward I believe this would be a big step and I'm waiting for interesting discussion about possibilities of doing that :amused:

I agree. Why is there a limit anyway?

i like it, the problem is with some jelaous members who think that only long time memebrs should have an access to iso cellar

I really like the idea of having "front page" reviews complete with screen shots and extras for ISO games. I have brought up the idea before but did not get much response. The problem with linking them to the cellar is that the cellar relies on third party hosting which could disappear at any given moment and/or create bad links as games are dropped from the various hosting sites.

Obviously hosting such games on Abandonia takes care of that problem. I have always suspected (but have never seen it confirmed anywhere) that the pieces of eight would somehow, someday play into the process of hosting larger (ISO) games. Perhaps they will be used to "purchase" the ability to download a large game that requires extra bandwidth. That would be beneficial to Abandonia on a number of levels.

Because bandwidth and server space cost money, duh.
Before the arrangement with Studentis, the cash for both had to either be collected from the donations and advertising or come from Kosta's own pocket. And it's not like he's in Fortune 100 (or 500) to foot a bill for the amount of server space hosting full ISOs would require, nor the bandwidth it would generate.

This would be nice! :amused:

Why dont we use torrents?

The Fifth Horseman 04-04-2008 07:39 AM

We'd need our own tracker first.

why not upload all torrents on the pirate bay ([BEEEP]) under the same user and then link to that user on PTB from here?

Geezer 04-04-2008 02:47 PM

Pirate Bay is evil. I would hope that the powers that be are smart enough to stay as far away from that organization as possible.
