UFO problems in Windows XP
I'm hoping Titan can help me out with this. Sorry for the long backstory...
I recently had the urge to play X-COM again and found my old cd copy to be missing. Unflustered, I found my old PC Gamer disc (disc 5.10 from July of 2000) that included the full copy. It also includes a program that can be used for slowing down the computer to run older games properly. I installed and ran without slowing down the machine and it seemed to work fine. I think. The graphics are all whacked out (mirroring, can't see anything straight) but the sounds seem to be fine. I did a search on eBay and Google and found a review pointing to this site. I found out that X-COM is called UFO: Enemy Unknown and I downloaded the version offered on this site as it said in the epinions.com article that this version would work on Windows XP. The text at the bottom of the page for UFO: Enemy Unknown also said something akin to "works with a patch for Windows XP". My problem: It works the SAME as the game on my PC Gamer disc. The graphics are still wonky and I have no idea what to do. Please help me!!! |
Odd.... i have XP Home on this machine, and XP pro on my other... works fine on both..
Are you shure you are running the right vers. of the game? Also, most ppl run it w/o problems.. Have you uppdated XP lately? |
!! I know the problem! There are 2 programs in the UFO:EU folder. One creates wonky graphics, the other works(Not reliably though, crashes sometimes on my PC)
|
try UFO.exe, not UFO_Defense.exe
|
That works now. I wonder why it's never worked when I clicked on UFO: Enemy Unknown before. That's odd. But thanks for the tip.
And maybe Abandonia should include that little tip on the site? Just a thought. |
