no speech in Shadow of the Comet/museum.exe

Hello,

I downloaded the great old Shadow of the Comet from an abandonware-site (iso file, approximately 90 MB), but I canīt get to run it well. In particular I wanted to visit the Lovecraft-Museum.
I managed to get it to run with vdmsound, but only if I donīt enable speech during the game. With speech enabled, the game will slow down when watching an object considerably and no speech is heard.

Does anybody have by chance a solution for that?

thanks in advance,

lead

Run Install.exe
Go to Options
Then Hardware Options
Set both sound options to Sound Blaster.

thank you for the quick reply.

The problem is that I can only see the icons when going into install exe - the words are completely confused and I canīt read anything which is written there (hard to explain).

I added two screenshots (taken with camera, print-key didnīt work) which show the "confusion". I donīt know exactly what to do.

Looks like an issue with your code page.
Best thing to do would be running the game in DOSBox (works flawlessly - I've set it up myself some months ago).

ok, in any case sorry to bother you again: how does one get to work in in dox box? I am using the dos box game launcher where you can create profile - but I absolutely donīt get to work it with it. I thought it is enough to go into "mounting" and then write under "execute" the .exe-file and the install.

You need to use the IMGMOUNT command to access the ISO and MOUNT with a directory on your hard drive so that you have somewhere to install it to.

I suggest you install the game without using DBGL, by the way. You can configure DBGL to run it later.

ok, thank you. It works now! I mounted simply the "museum.exe" with dosbox and I have speech (though a little stuttering) and music.
Thx for the help.
