The Classic Website Design & Interface
Hi!
Just wanted to say I miss your previous site design very much. It had that "warm", "homely" feeling about it. I thought this design is just temporary when in the early days of this new layout, it was still under construction and that you were planning something different. But it had remained so till now. Maybe it's just me and my personal taste and I wonder how many of our fellow members feel the same way. I guess the respected moderators are quite busy but just wondering if it's possible to create a sort of alternate layout option to choose from under the profile page? The one like the old times? Other than that, just would like to let know that I'm very happy with your site and one of the best sites I have come across. I even access your website from my mobile phone when I'm err...mobile. And finally I would like to just say, that I actually registered in this forum just to voice out my preference towards your previous web design and colours. Hopefully I'll take part in other discussions too, especially helping out fellow gamers in the technical sections. I'm no expert but I have some experience since I grew with DOS 3.3. Thanks for reading my suggestion.:) |
This layout is the one from "the old time".
Please be a little bit specific... I think you are refering to the previous layout before the one you see at this very moment, but I could be wrong. |

And yes the current layout sucks heavily, that is the general consensus. So the team is doing what they can, at least the forum has the old feeling back, I'm afraid though the actual site is much harder to change. |
Welcome to the realm of the posters :)
I think you mean the whole site not just the forum? As Tulac said: You're not the only one with that preference... The forum has recently been refurbished in order to take it back aesthetically, but the rest of the site is more hardwired and inaccessible to the admins. So things may change here and there, but at the moment it can't change all over, even if admins wanted to (it would be LOTS of work). |

Not to get your hopes up, but we're looking into the matter. If everything goes according to plan, the site might go back to something resembling the old design. Quote:

Right now all we could manage is some workarounds. You'd be surprised if you knew how much of the recent changes in the forum design are just primitive hacks. |
yeah, the old layout was better, most of people think so. and yes, it was supposed to be temporary and there were supposed to be added a lot of new stuffies into graphical layout, but well it's stuck here now. and it's not that it would be a LOTS of work to change it, it's just that we can't because the files are unaccessable right now, long story=P

Oh, he meant the old site? I thought he meant about the forums because we just changed it a few days ago, while the new site layout been there for what? At least a year now?

Hello again.
Yes, I meant the Abandonia Main Page and its sub-sites, not this forum layout. Thanks for sharing the info. I think the main striking feature that makes it somewhat obtrusive, at least for me, is the white background. The previous one had a warm "creamy" background I think. Anyway, I understand you guys are busy and this is somewhat hard for you guys and unfortunately, I don't know anything about web designing to help you out. At least, I can see that our spirits of upholding the goodwill spirit of preservation of classic games is maintained here. It's sad to see some people are against abandonware, when it's not hurting anyone anymore financially, where no one is at loss, and you can't get it anywhere, either online or offline at stores. People like you are the real preservers of the golden moments of pc history. Great work guys! And let's keep up the good work that you're doing! |
Thanks Malik for your words :)
Actually we would like to change the main page of the site, but at the moment we can't. BUT we are working on new pages ;) |
