Save me!

I got Doom 2 to work fine on the DOSBox and stuff, but it won't let me save.
Also, there's already save slots on the game.
I was like, "wha...?".
Seemed sorta like I got a game that someone has already played, but, how? I mean, when I load the names, they have their own spot and everything. Unless that's suppose to happen. But when I tried saving my own game, it said "game saved", but when I went to load, it was still at the previously saved game. (I even changed the name of the saved game when I saved. When I loaded, the name just changed back.) My brother said I had to do something (like make some sort of file or whatever) to make things and games like this save. He doesn't know how, so he told me the best place to look is the forums. I looked, and couldn't find. :( So now I'm just asking... :)

Where did you get the game? Never mind, don't answer. Obviously the copy you have is someone else's hand-me-down sooooo... Try to get it from somewhere else... :pirate:

Select all game files, press Alt+Enter (or right-click > "properties") and make sure the "read only" attibute is removed.

Where did you install the game, and are you using Vista? Try running DOSBox as admin to check.

I just got the download off a sight that had a link to this sight. Oh, no. I'm using windows.

DoomDuh 26-03-2009 05:16 PM

AAAGH. Lol, rant.
The properties was on "read only" so I unchecked it, applied, and pressed OK.
I then double-checked and saw that the "read only" was still checked. So, it was like, not even saving my properties. Even though I used "apply" and everything.
. . . .
lol?

Whatever, use Skulltag to run Doom in Windows.
Skulltag <- click

BTW, if your 'Windows' is Vista work in your personal folders.

Ah. Windows XP, sorry.

Skulltag seams OK. If you want Doom 1 for free. And I kinda said doom 2... Meh. :noworry: No prob.

about the read only option, found this on the net

So many things were tried but I think what worked is:-

In Windows Explorer showing the file/folder in question, goto Tools->Folder Option->View,then
- unclik 'Display simple folder view...'
- click 'Use simple file sharing (Recommended)'
- click "Apply" then "OK" then change the attribute of the file in question.
btw, are you sure you unchecked the files themselves? it doesn't work if you uncheck read "only on" that directory only
also try unchecking the single file and checking back. does it work?

That's true, but multiplay rocks in skulltag.

BTW, best graphics are those with jDoom
