Sound Problems (in General)
Is there any support of AWE32 in DosBox?
Also, which in-game sound is the best, ad lib , soundblaster etc.? How would you determine? Thanks. |

Try always first SoundBlaster 16 / SoundBlaster Pro I & II / SoundBlaster I & II when doing a game setup. Longwinded : Try always first Soundblaster compatible, SoundBlaster 16 / SoundBlaster Pro I & II / SoundBlaster I & II when doing a game setup. With dosbox 0.73 you sometimes can get better results with adlib, but that's game dependent. |
Thanks. So, in your opinion, which sound hardware provide best sound quality?

I'm afraid I'm not such a purist (and my ears are getting older, as am I ...), I usually go for max compatibility.
So that means a SB16 ,SB pro or SB compatible. I only will switch to something else if a game gives me troubles, not for sound quality. If you are somekind of purist (nothing wrong with that, each his own I would say) you should take a look@ http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=16974 Last time I've tried that was with dosbox 0.70, had some good results with games that support GUS. Been too lazy to try it out on 0.73, even don't know if you need this in 0.73 as there were some major improvements in the latest dosbox release. Try it and let us know ....... :whistling: |
Personally I recommend SB Pro 2. SB 16 felt weird at times, not sure why.

You could also try the Roland for music if the game has MIDI music. Sometimes it's a whole lot better then the SB on that front :)
