Yea well I got new ram for my PC :)... in total I have 512MB of SDRAM. The downside, I must have corrupted my HDD :wall: . First the bios couldn't start the eithernet chip, then windows wouldn't start, THEN I couldn't restore my pc with the recovery disks!!!! I got scared there. I tried reinstalling Windows with my Win 2003 cd and couldn't create a new partition OMG! Then I was freakin out :hairpull: ... I pop my recovery disk one last time and every thing went ok. Phew that was a close one I thought! Now I have installed the Omega drivers (as I always do), Firefox (DIE IE) install Office 2000, Norton Anti-Virus, Updated Direct X and Windows (makes my games run better/faster), configure every thing, and clean up my HDD (old files from recovery and crap that came with pc). Also Install and update PlayOnline/Final Fantasy XI (God thats gonna take all night! ) Steam/Half Life 2/Counter-Strike: Source (not as long) and Doom 3 (havn't played in a while). By morning it all should be done. Finally I will ghost my hdd so I don't have to redo this crap next time I re-format.
LOL Told yea I format my pc every 3 weeks  |
more likely is your new ram is bad. its very unlikely to be a coincidence that the problems started when you put new ram in it! (although not impossible) it might be bad when you bought it, or you accidentally damaged it. either way, bad ram can cause those kind of weird flakey problems. so if you get more problems, put the old ram back in and see if it stops the problems, then you will know. oh yeah, it might be that your power supply can cope with the extra power the new ram needs. 512mb uses quite a lot more power than 256 |
Or that it's a different type or Ram than supported by the mobo, or because the Ram wasn't fully plugged in, giving a tiny loose contact... could've been alot of things. Could even've been that you accidentally hit a cable or so.

make sure you check motherboard compatability as well. not all ram chips are created equal.

Kon Tiki is right, it took many tryies of restarting and checking memory test till I figurwed out that the memory wasn't inserted fully. Dosn't matter now, The ram is detected and all is good... plus my pc is clean and fast :)
Sadly lost a chunk of OPCs files. Gotta restore em see how much I lost... |
Maybe u got a limit on your motherboard. I saw a PC in a store and it was wroten up to 2GB RAM :)
