Adobe Illustrator Brushes

Im putting this in technical cause it's dealign with file extensions, etc etc.

So, at school I downloaded a bunch of brushes for adobe illustrator and they worked fine......

But now when i download them from deviant art, they come in an .abr extension which illustrator tells me is an 'unknown file type' and they need to be in a .ai extension....any idea's about how to get the brushes to work in Illustrator?

ABR brushes are for Photoshop. You can't simply convert non-vector into vector brushes.

but even brushes i used for Illustrator are in .abr format..unless of course its just coincidence that the people made illustrator and photoshop versions

Those are all apparently illustrater brushes and are in .abr format. I am confused :( specially the ones i used last year don't work..

why don't you contact the person who made the brushes you want to download and ask him?

You can make art brushes in Illustrator similar to how you can make them in Photoshop. But there is no way to directly convert a brush .abr to an Illustrator file (They are two different sets of code. You can't directly convert a raster tool to a vector tool, which is what you are trying to do).

You should ask here, as most of these guys know more than I do:
