What exactly IS Bittorent? I've heard a lot about it, and I know HOTU uses it, but I have really freaking fast cable connection (500 Mbps) so I've never really seen a purpose for it.

It reduces the bandwidth requirements of the website host (and hence the costs) by using the upload bandwidth of people who are downloading to send the file to the other downloaders.
Although many people seem to have found it useful for illicit purposes that is not what it was originally designed for. Legitimate uses of it I have noticed include: -
Fedora (Distrobution of linux)
natural selection (half life mod)

Works only very well for files larger then 500 MB....

I've used it with files as small as 20MB. I didn't suggest using it for files that small though did I?
What is the purpose of having the vip section anyway? Just to reward people who do good things for the site or is it to reduce the amount of bandwidth your website uses as well?
Anyway all :kosta: to abandonia. I just though running a bitorrent tracker on the website might be an interesting suggestion.
