Doom2 Graphics glitched when Fullscreen
After wanting a way to play through Doom 2 for years now, I finally got agitated enough to find a viable option and found out about Dosbox. I just now got to where I can install a game today (using Windows7) and have been playing Doom 2. Problem is, if I use the fullscreen option to expand the window past the tiny size you start with, the colors glitch where the game looks horrendous, with a bizarre group of whites pinks and greens. Im using a Radeon 4870 and a 24 inch monitor. How do I set a proper resolution with this GPU and monitor combo?
Thanks for any help. |
The original Doom fullscreen on a 24" mon......? I really can't advise to do so, looks horrific.
Keep dosbox windowed but stretch the window: fullscreen=false fulldouble=false fullresolution=original windowresolution=1024x768 ##or whatever suits you best## output=ddraw Or simply use Skulltag, will solve all your problems ........ |
I agree with Dosraider, you should consider getting a source port like Skulltag.

I have to agree... Such old games graphics were pixelated on normal 14" screens to start with...
Good luck with that. Messing around the graphic options like it already been mentioned above might help you there. |
If you get rainbowish colors then try changing output=ddraw to opengl.

Of course you could give up on the original Doom2 and use a remake like Doomsday. You'll need the original game files (wads) so the gameplay is the same. The textures, creatures, lighting effects have all been redone. But the graphics are as if Doom was released in 2003 instead of 1993.
You can even do multiplayer. Images samples here: http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...=&oq=&gs_rfai= More info here: http://forums.newdoom.com/forumdisplay.php?f=57 Game wads for ALL original Doom games should be available on the web. I was even able to play Doom64 written for Nintendo 64. But since there were new creatures not in the original PC game, some displayed as the original sprints. If you don’t like the original game music, there’s a file out there that imports the PSX Doom music. |
Sorry to revive this
