Help me remember this game please!

Hi,

I have been searching for a game for a very long time, obviously because I forgot its name! The only thing I have are memories, so if it rings a bell please help out :)
  • You get to choose one of four factions, they are presented on the same screen, each has its own sound theme when you move the mouse over it. Pirates and England i think are two of those factions.
  • After choosing your faction you will be looking at map like interface and your ships are at icon size.
  • You have to destroy enemy ships if i remember correctly, also i think it was turn based.
  • Popcap game "Seven Seas" somewhat reminds me of this game.

I'm not that good at explaining things but I hope that was enough. Please if you know something tell me.

P.S: I hope that I posted in the right section of the forums!

Yeah, right section, right section... well, I think there really should be a "HOW-TO" on asking about old games. The most important things are:

- When was it released? (70s? 80s? 90s?)
- in connection with this, what graphics standard did it use? (CGA? EGA? VGA?)
- what style it was? (like RTS, RPG, FPS, etc.)
rarely known things, such as...
- Who developed/released it? (LucasArts? Westwood? Legend?)
- Who were the producer? (Tim Schafer? Ron Gilbert? Some random hobo?)
and maybe the most important...
- What machine was it written for? (Amiga? C64? IBM-compatible w/ DOS? Win95-era?) - this is also related to the first question

I'm not trying to flame or anything, I'm just trying to help you to help us to help you find that game. I know these are very detailed questions, and very hard to answer, but worth thinking about.

To be more helpful than educative, I try to suggest some things, like:
Check out the list of strategy games on-site here
Strategy!
Unfortunately I couldn't filter naval strategy games, might be because of a bug. You might want to search for something pirate-themed thingy. May I suggest:
- Gloriana
- Pirates!
- Uncharted Waters

Note the related games listed on the bottom of every review. By the way, what do you mean by "they are presented on the same screen"? You mean while playing the screen is divided to four equal rectangles and there you can see - for example - the ships of each nation?
That part is a bit confusing. You might also want to check board games:
- Board

Good luck finding what you seek!

Uncharted Waters had a sequel:

Not a good match either but, Colonization?

Maybe it's Man of War, either the first or the second part?

No screenshots at Moby's, unfortunately.

Could just as well be Colonization. There is no pirates but there is privateers.

Thanks for all your replies.

@Tracker:
I know that it had vga graphics so should be 90s release. It was either realtime or turn based strategy. It was written for DOS (or windows 95).
After the game starts you get a screen divided into four rectangles to choose your faction.

I did a search for a long time for this, googled it, looked on abandonia (used the related games feature too) :) i dont like freeloading ;)

@Japo: thanks, but its not that game.
@Zaro: thanks, not that game either.
@Eagle of Fire: thanks too, but its not colonization (i know that game:) )
