VGA Sold, AGI Not, or Vise Versa?

If a game was substantially remade several times, and only some versions are commercially available.

What is your position in this case?

Please provide an example case which can be used as a suitable benchmark.

The old Sierra adventure games, the one's for sale are either the 80s AGI originals, or the VGA 90s remakes.
Hence the title of the thread...

If the different versions released were substantially different enough to be considered separate games, their status is considered separately. Keep in mind that some remakes go out of their way to include the original game in some form (which is why the Telltale remakes of first two Monkey Island games count as the originals being sold)
