Kings Table - The Legend of Ragnarok
As the title suggests, it was a top-side strategy game that had game-play similar to chess. I believe it ran on Windows 95/98 and I played it in the mid-90's. I remember you controlled different god like characters who each had different attacks, etc. and you moved them around on what I think was a single hexagonal grid. There may have been smaller warrior type units also... can't remember exactly. It was colorful and somewhat 3D. There is no town building or resource gathering. The point is to just kill the opposing gods.

Nah that's not it. The playing area was one single screen I believe. Thanks for the help though!

The only other kind of game I know which could loosely fit your description is the Majesta serie.

I can't find anything about Majesta... and its not Slay although that is very close to my description haha. Sorry I can't be more specific. =\

Sounds a bit like "Heros of Might and Magic". May be part 3?
