Diablo 2 installation
 

I tried to re-install the game (to downgrade to 1.07), but it says "can't create save folder, installation aborted".

I tried running it as admin, but happened the same.


Any idea?


I kinda remember Blizzard released free digital download for those who already have the game, but can't find it.
If I'm correct, could you give the link?

1. Check paths? Maybe it wants to create folder in subfolder that no more exist? (I.e. Documents and Settings).

2. Blizzard says, you must have Battle.net account with activated D2 on it. Help says, you will be allowed to re-download any such game from Battle.net, but don't says anything about if "any game" relate to really "any", or only newest ones. It says about "old Battle.net functionality" though.

After entering the serial, you will be able to download the digital version of the game to your PC (the download utilizes BitTorrent, but is keyed to your IP - you'll need to redownload the downloader every time your IP changes; at least that's how it was last year). The old CD Key is no longer usable with this version, there's a new key you will find on your BN account page for the game.

From Blizzard only the 1.12 version comes down.

Well I think the version of Diablo II Battle Chest is either 1.09 or 1.07, however not sure if it's already patched up if buying from Blizzard site directly (they're still selling new ones). I know when I got mine in a store back in 2004 it was a version below 1.09 and got patched up after connection to the Battle-Net.
You might want to track up a used one on eBay or Amazon.

Battlechest is 1.07, yes. It only upgrades when you try to connect with Battle.net or do it manually.
