Hi guys. I have scored quite well on a few IQ tests lately, and was wondering if they are just a sales ploy or actually accurate. They always seem to offer a more complete version that sub-catagorises the info, and elaborates on your intelligence for 9.95. Are these free tests somewhat accurate?
Just to narrow it down, the tests took about 20 minutes and comprised of about 40 questions.
there were no really difficult equations, just pattern recognition and word association, and a few picture based questions.

There's no way of telling, really, if you don't know what those tests were based on. 20 minutes sounds a bit short, though. If you really want to know your IQ for whatever reason, it would probably be best to do a professional test (which might take several hours, though, so be warned :)).

All IQ tests are dumb, IMO.

It depends on what the people that created a test, think is "intelligence"

And that still leaves the question of whether it will do you any good to know your IQ, of course... But if Evad wants to know, he might as well do it properly.:)

Your actual IQ doesn't mean anything anyway.

You can be the most intelligent person in the world, but it doesn't mean that you'd actually be able to apply it to anything in practice.
Being able to do long-division in your head is one thing, but the person sitting right next to you could pick up a calculator and do exactly the same.

When I was in high school, the careers advisors put about 5 of us forward for an aptitude and intelligence test. I scored within the top 5% of the country for most things, and the top 1% for most. I've still got the results.
But it doesn't mean that I can actually apply my talents to anything in particular. I have superb mechanical and spatial awareness according to my results, but I'm a bit crap when it comes to using my hands, so I'd be no good as a mechanical engineer! :karate:

The only thing it achieved was making me feel good for a while. :D

I'd agree with TheSmyth, per instance the woman with the highest IQ in Croatia only ended High School, ans she doesn't even have a job now...
But still IQ can be a helping factor, and can boost your self esteem :D

When you do well on an IQ test all it proves is that you can do well on IQ tests.
