Does anyone know how I can make a full install of Riven? I have the CD version and I know there's a way to do it but my googling skills aren't good enough. For those that do not know, there isn't a natural way to do it so you have to do a little hack. That or swap the 5-6 CD's...

I found this:
Quote:

Here is the procedure for playing Riven without a CD in the drive:

You copy the MHK files from the data directory on each of the CDs to the data directory of the installed application (eg: C:\Program Files\Riven\data). [On the Mac, simply drag the MHK files into the "Data" folder in the "Riven Folder" on your hard disk.]

Then edit the "riven.cfg" file in C:\Program Files\Riven so that in each section that looks like:

[ospit] Disc = 5 File_0 = "data/o_data.mhk" File_1 = "data/o_sounds.mhk"

the "Disc" line reads Disc = 0

[Exactly the same for thePC and the Mac.]

Apparently the program recognizes "Disk 0" as the hard disk and has no trouble finding its data there. (I edited the "riven.cfg" text file in SimpleText and saved the changes.) It works on my Mac, and since the same procedure works on a PC, it looks like a cross-platform modification of only the riven.cfg file, plus the data download, does the trick. The result is very cool; there is no hesitation in the program at the point where the CD-ROM disk would normally have to be changed; the mod is totally transparent to the user. This is a great improvement for those with a lot of hard disk capacity available, and I can recommend it on the basis of personal experience.

I don't have riven so you'll have to test this yourself. (press the "Installing All Riven CDs on the Hard Drive" link)

Or you could do what I did: buy the enhanced DVD-version of Riven :)

I have the original Riven, got it for ten bucks, brand new.

I've got the original one too, the one with all the CDs, but one of them has a problem running to movies... so i just bought the DVD version with crisper more detailed movies and such.

I haven't seen the DVD version in stores. I bought the Myst Masterpiece/Riven double pack for around $10. Doing a full install seems to have worked so I don't think I'll bother with the DVD version.
