I have Windows 98 (Second Edition) and VDMSound's not working under it (it says I don't have admin rights - obviously the program's designed for NT). Is there a 9x version?

Normally the Windows drivers for the soundcard (they do not provide DOS drivers, eh) was enough to run digital audio and midi under DOS, but since the last format+reinstall every DOS games says the same: "Error initiliazing sound" or "Error initializing midi". I'm using DirectX 9 (Maybe when my soundcard worked under DOS, it was older version, I'm not sure).

Any advice is acceptable. :kosta:

You should be able to make about any DOS games work under Win98. Maybe this thread would help you. Look at the quoted guide at the end of the second post.

Thank you very much, Data. Although on the post you linked me to there are links to missing files. Nevermind, I'll try to find them elsewhere. At least I know there's solution to my problem. :D Thanks again.

EDIT: Eagle of Fire, it seems I should write in "Look Here First, Most common problems" before making a new thread. Sorry. Anyway, thanks for the info, although your topic offers info mostly about DOSBox (which I doubt that will be useful for me with my 366 MHz CPU), VDMSound and autoexec/config. However, I'm taking note of clicking "Search" before clicking "New Topic".

One Question: Works this Version with Win ME?

Someone told me Windows ME ignore the Autoexec.bat

Quote:

Edit AUTOEXEC.BAT as indicated during INSTALL.BAT (to make the VDMSPATH environment variable point to the installation folder) and restart Window
Sorry for my bad english LOL

I think you'll need some DOS-based drivers for the soundcard. Check if there are any on the driver disk...
