Hey there Gamers,

I heve recently got myself a copy of king's quest 7 (legally) and im running on windows XP Home edition. But when I installed the game its giving me an error

A privileged instruction was executed at address 004738F5
Press ok to terminated this program

Now looking at the date the game is made I can undertand that the game might have some problems running on my computer, but still, I want it to work :w00t:

So if any one has had the same problems, or has an idea for me, please let me know.

What is your computer specs? I suggest you try either VDMSound or DOSBox.

If it wasn't a DOS game, try using Compatibility modes (also in conjuction with VDMSound), or if that fails - virtual machines, like Microsoft Virtual PC.

Thanks for your help, but I have tried the Emulators like dos box and scum vm
but whit dosbox it doesn't work becuase i have to use my cd drive and the hardrive at the same time, en scum doesn't even see the game.

Im gonna try the VMDSound now end see if that works, I sure hope so

Well I'll let you guys know how its coming allong.

And how exactly is it a problem? As far as I am concerned, DOSBox been made to solve such problems...

Ok, Ill try to explane, but my English isn't that good.

When I run Dosbox i mount the c:/kq7 so i can start the executeble
But when i do that, it says i should run the program under windows because its a windows aplication.

Nou whit the scum program, It doesn't even see the game. So there is my problem, but i still havent tried the other programs jet, but i also have been looking around on some Dutvh E-Bay-like site for a secend used wasted computer for my old dos games. I found one already for €15,- thats about $10,- so...

In that case it mean that it's not a DOS game at all, so DOSBox and VSMSound are completely useless to you. You should use The Fifth Horseman suggestions above instead.

Try the windows 95 or windows 98 compatibility, the chances are it'll work then...

If you wonder how to get to the compatibility mode, right click on the executable (probably kq7.exe), properties, compatibility (tab)...

That's a very good idea, especially if you are going to play more DOS oldies.

I always say that nothing can be better then the real thing.

Hey guys, thanks for all the help!

I have used the virtual windows now, and its perfect :w00t:
The game run good, only gets stuck a lot, but that seems to go away if i save the game evry 10 min or so LOL
