What to do with the gun...
First you click the gun on Jeb (and he will be holding it - it won't be in the inventory). When you want to shoot, just click one of those pelets over Jeb (but he'll only shoot if there's something to shoot at: Bear, Boar, Rabbit). You need three of those pelets.
