Later when I needed them (after looking at the walkthrough) I found I did not have them and they were not at the pool for me to collect. Are you sure the tentacles (or tentacle parts) are not at the pool? 
I just tried it - I dealt with the pool monster, left, then came back. The tentacle parts were there.
There should be 2 green things next to the forcefield.

it may have just been something wrong with mine. I definately went back a few times to recheck and nothing was there unfortunately
