Although TIE Fighter had better ingame graphics, IMHO the cutscenes in X-Wing are among the best I've ever seen in a game from that time. I even made screenshots of some of them ^^. Too bad TIE fighter didn't have as many good cutscenes as X-Wing, and in later games (XvT, Alliance) they reduced them even more.
Oh how I miss those times ;-)
