![]() Because I recently had some differences of opinion with my internet provider I decided to make a complete change into the mobile world. But I don´t really know if that´s really a great idea. There´s just a fraction of bandwdith of ADSL...and it´s more expensive.
Unfortunately I don´t have any experiences with UMTS. Maybe someone around here has some good points for me. In addition I´d like to get some suggestions about possible cell phones... My mobile provider suggested samsung sgh-320i. Wht do you think? |

![]() One idea is to visit some sort of local 'consumer's guide'. The providers don't go out of their ways to cut their own throats, if you know what I mean.

![]() Well you should also check is Wi-fi/WiMax is available in your town, or cable operators or some other alternative (that's cheaper than UMTS)...

![]() Been using UMTS phones for the last 3-4 years.
The data in the normal UMTS network is capped at 384 kb/s or even 128 kb/s in areas with few nodes. Here in sweden they offer a deal with a PC-card and 3 GB of traffic / month for 45€ It's total mobility at the cost of an expincive connection. UMTS connection is something you should realy have use for before you concider signing up. What are you options? Does the old provider have exclusive access in your area on DSL? Do you have the option of WiFi? Connection via your cable-tv provider (if you have cable)? Or do you have satelite TV (If so, they often offer connection with satelite-dish)? Or even the electric network (we have a provider here, where you just plug the modem into the normal electric socket)... UMTS, as i said before, has downsides.. but if it's your ONLY alternative, it's berhaps worth it. I use it ONLY for the phone (Calling, Data-trafic to the handset, Video-phone and so on...)

![]() UMTS would come with a real flat. So I could spent as much time on the web as I liked to.
Of course it isn´t the only alternative. But in the last six years I used the bandwidth of to web providers. And every time I moved to another flat I got problems with these companies. Problem is that these are the biggest and most important ones in Germany. I also thought about getting a telephone/web flat via TV connection. But I´m not sure... One of my intention to use UMTS is that I could use it nearly nywhere. I often travel from Düsseldorf to Brunswick where my parents are living. So I could take my internet connection with me. I think I will test UMTS for three month and will consider after this period if it fits or not... But if I read right: UMTS doesn´t make you feel confident...? |
