![]() Friend of mine wants to play TIE fighter with sound and joystick on WinXP, but can't get it started. He keeps getting the attached error message. His cd-rom drive gets recognized and reads fine, so that's not the problem.

![]() Throw more details out
Where does he play it? In DosBox or Windows XP? In in DosBox, is the game on the original CD? Did he use the "-t cdrom"-command to mount the CD drive? |

![]() Is he using DOSBox?
If not, tell him he won't be able to play Tie Fighter on WinXP unless he use a Boot Disk. The problem as I see it is that CD-Rom drivers must be loaded in DOS so DOS recognize the CD-rom itself. Windows might be able to work with the CD-rom fine, but then the game, which is made to be played in DOS, try to access the CD-rom with the old DOS method. Which will never work unless the drivers are loaded in memory. If he's using DOSBox then there is probably a way to do this like FreeFreddy just said. |

![]() Well, for DosBox, use the following command to mount the CD drive:
mount x x:/ -t cdrom (where x is the letter of the fitting drive and the letter in DosBox for it). |

![]() Posting in other threads won't help you. If we had a clue we would have been glad to help you in the first thread you oppened up.
Sometimes it take time before all the members read it and actually find the cause and the fix to the problem, so be patient and I'm sure someone will think about something. I myself acknowledged your first thread but can't help you on the matter. You can be sure that if I find something I'll share the info. |
