That sounds at the very least fishy.

Hopefully, it won't be that bad and things will still work as usual - just minus one tracker.

There's always an alternative.

Well they're killing the tracker but the site will be up and you will still be able to download stuff.

They're killing the tracker so that there is no centralized server through which data flows, but rather use DHT and PEX (I don't know what the second one is), that way I guess it will be harder for companies and institutions to shut down actual bittorrent sites.

That is how I understood the text at least, and russ is a nub so he panicked.

yes you will be able to download via dht and this stuff but it will never be as fast and as reliable as the tracker

Why do you think so? It always depends on the numbers of seeders and leechers and people can still put openbittorrent, publicbt and others as the trackers of torrents that they upload to TPB, and it will be more reliable since you won't depend on the tracker actually being online.

If you want fast, private trackers are the only option anyway, and I bet you haven't even noticed that TPB tracker has been down for 3 months already.

TPB trackers were always there for nearly everything I d/l'd tho.
I supposed BT was usually always there, too.

Never noticed it not being active for the last 3 months. Mind, I've only been seeding for a while now...

Does this mean [people will have to re-register the torrents they've made if they only registered at TPB]?

I don't think so because those torrents have had DHT enabled as well so they are still alive without the tracker.
