![]() ok so today I fried my friends Xp installation. I tried everything to fix it so my diaganosis was that xp was unrecoverable but his data was, with koppix or a external hdd. His dad insists on call tech support so he does. Then my friend calls me up telling me what dell said: that it happens all the time and the hdd is DEAD!!!!!I was like ROFL WTF????? I could easily read all the stuff on the hdd with dos. So dell sent him a free 160GB HDD!!! Now all we have to do is transfer his needed files, and reformat the borked hard drive.

![]() Well, they may be stupid but he got a free HDD out of it
I'd say that telling your customers your hard disks die "all the time" is pretty dumb, too. |

![]() Yeah, but that's tech support. Several repair engineers could not recognize that my CD-ROM drive was not working because of a toasted motor.
Finally one electronics student managed to indentify the problem - by actually testing the drive through voltage input to various sub-components. |
