Which special game effect stumbled your senses when you first saw it ?
One of my favorites is: The colour changes in ATRAIN. The colour will change from day to night and vary from season to season. I've recorded a sample of what I mean. (day and night changes) ATRAIN - The movie(HQ)

I get an error for the video it tries to get a codec but fails. Help says I don't have a codec. I figured that out. Stupid Windows.

Battlefield 2's disorientation effect.
F.E.A.R. 's slowmo power. Far Cry's white lighting. Oblivion's bump mapping. Half-Life 2's rag doll physics. So many that I found that blew me away, too many to list

Sanity effects from Eternal Darkness. The bathtub scene* just hits you so quickly.
And Pretty much all ragdoll physics... Especially from Destroy All Humans!  *If you are playing Eternal Darkness and are scared easily, do not, I repeat DO NOT go near the bathtub. You have been warned.

morrowind sunrise and sunset.
otherwise gore in doom 2 when i first saw it. especially the berserker punch. oh and hexen ice spell - when i saw it back then the first time. also gore in Rise of the triade.
