Try Gunstar Heroes for the Genesis. It may have a more comical look than the Contra-Series, but it's pretty much the same gameplay and equally hard.

Well, considering the game has never been on the PC, you'd have to DL a rom, and those are illegle. So I'm pretty sure that's a no go.
