Default Darkland: help with setting up DOSBox

I'm using dosbox 0.74 to play Darklands and the game freezes whenever i go to battle - never even seen a battle screen.... I hope someone can reccomend a change i can make in my dosbox config file to resolve this. I have cycles set at max - this hasn't caused a problem with any other games - mem at 63 (the max allowed). The rest of it I havn't messed with so default values every where else - well mouse sensitivitys backed down, but that shouldn't be an issue.... HELP, please and Thank YOU.

Thanks that really helped - I left mem alone and set xms=false and that fixed the problem for me.
