Hi Guys,
Can you tell me the name of the cable that we use to transform video tape on to the computer. I'm asking this so I can go to the store and buy it. If you know any other methods of getting video tapes on to the computer please tell me. Thanks!!

eek. there is more than one though. it all depends on what inputs are on your graphics card, and also wether you are using a vhs player or a camcorder.

I'm using a VHS player. What do you mean it depends on my graphic crad?

I assume your video-card has a video-in connector?



The red/white ones are for audio, the yellow is composite video, the bottom one is S-video in. If your VHS-recorder supports SCART (usually it does, unless it's really old), you're going to need:

* a scart composite adapter:
* an audio-cable (standard red/white tulip)
* a composite cable (yellow tulips)

OR

* an all-in-one cable.

Edit: Just ask for a SCART to Composite cable and they'll know what you mean.

My Video-card doesn't support video-in, so I bought a TV card(around 80$), I can record both TV and VHS on my PC using that...

Yeah I actually did my first VHS -> Computer recording yesterday. I used the connector that came with the TV card. Heres some pics:


The Red Yellow and Red cables I pluged into the vcr with one of those extenter cables, and I didn't worry about the black cable. I plugged the othere end ( the black single bit) into the TV Tuner card which had one of those inputs.

Check what inputs you have at the back of your video card. If you can afford a TV Card (they are pretty cheap these days), then I would recommend it as they are pretty cool.

Does the S-Video cable work both ways (send's the signal back to the computer as well)? I have to try it. I've got a TV USB plug-in, but it's not of a very high quality - so I don't record VHS on PC. But I've connected the S-Video to teh VCR - so I can copy DVD's on tape (very useful for a teacher who just want's to present certain clips out of movies in the class).

That is the main purpose I need the cable so the cable I have to buy is...........
