![]() Hi, I am building an old box for old games. It has an Asus P5A motherboard which I was actually able to find the manual for on Asus's web site. The manual says that it will support up to an AMD K6-2/450. My question is; can I put an AMD K6-2/500 on it and underclock it via the jumpers to 450?

![]() That speed cpu is a bit fast for dos games for dos you wanat about a 133mhz computer so you can still play gta1 for dos and stuff like that.
That cpu would be okay for and older windows gaming system thought paried with win98se or WinME (I would use 98se though) that would make a good system. |

![]() It will be good for most DOS games too, I think. Some older ones might require slowdowns, but that's what Mo'Slo is for.
And yes, you can underclock your CPU, either from BIOS (if your FSB/multiplier settings are BIOS-controlled) or by changing the jumper setup (if they are controlled by jumpers). Note that it is better to decrease the multiplier than the FSB speed - fast FSB gives better overall performance. |

![]() I can't find where did I put my old AMD K6-2 400MHz processor.
I got motherboard, but my brother replaced my original processor (450MHz) with his. And now I have no idea wher it is. Decrease of the speed will work fine, as long as you decrease by correct multiplayer. |

![]() Thanks, I figured it would work I just wanted to check. Been a long time since I messed with jumpers, dip switched, etc. Ahhh, IRQ's and memory addresses. Those were the thing that seperated the boys from the gurus!!!
