you cant taste water niether..and its still so easy to recognise..and good. btw you can also always buy those 'flavoured vodkas' (absolut vanilia is good one)

Oh vodka definitely has a taste, it's just the cheaper ones that perpetuate the myth that it has no taste except that of vodka. Good quality vodka is smooth and delicate, a little like saki.
By the by, good saki is a heavenly drink. Slightly back on topic - I don't mix fizzy drinks with alcohol, they make my mouth sticky
