James Cameron is the creator of the Terminator films, Aliens, The Abyss, Strange Days, Titanic and a couple of fantastic documentaries. Avatar employs more than 1,000 people in its film, with a budget of more than three hundred million dollers. A selected few have inspected a demo version of the film, and it's incredibly awesome! Or so Ridley Scott, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Peter Jackson and a few of others claim. It uses revolutionary 3D technology, unmatched ever. According to the viewers, the creatures and ambients of the alien planet are as if completely alive. They make The Lord of the Rings' Gollum, Pirates of the Carribean's Davy Jones and King Kong's...erm...King Kong, look as if made on Commodore 64 using Basic. That technology itself is being improved/redevelopped by James Cameron. The game cannot even begin to be compared to the film, but even in the gaming industry - it stands on the place of the biggest video game project ever. James Cameron is looking over it. Here's a screenshot from the game (in-game!). It uses a similar (but naturally, considerably more primitive when compared to the filM) 3D technology: ![]() Last edited by Surgeon; 03-07-2009 at 12:24 AM. |

![]() I live in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, in the North of England.
According to imax.com, my nearest imax is 83 miles away. Thats fantastically convenient. Also, it seems there are only four or five in the entire country (of over 61 million people). I am suprised that my nearest one is in Bradford, but thats the only strange one, since the others are in Glasgow, Manchester and London. Given that Newcastle as a city has a population of approximately 190,000 people, and that combined with Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland (all very nearby) you could increase that to close to 1million, I feel we are routinely ignored except for a place to go and get wankered on a stag night. (figures from Wikipedia). |

![]() In Germany there are five IMAX cinemas, three of them 3D, for over 80 million citizens, and - funny like hell - two of them (one 3D) are only 36 (the 3D one) and 39 miles away from me, living my rural life, not wanting to experience lame contemporary inventions like 3D cinema. :bleh:
The trailer is divine up until 0:30. But I can't find out which song it is.

![]() If theres an alternative to IMAX in the UK, and specifically one near me, then I'd be all ears.
But theres no way I'm gonna travel across the country just to see a "real 3D" film. I'm sure it's amazing and everything, but it's not that amazing that I'll travel just to see a film, when I can walk into the city and watch in a regular cinema (or get a DVD). |

![]() I've seen the trailer, and I have to say it's very unimpressive.
http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/avatar/ It'll be decent enough I suppose, I doubt he's made a turkey. I also expect it to be successful, but not Titanic successful. I just don't see anything that's going to be so amazing, so revolutionary, that it will change the way we look at cinema. Now, you may think I'm being unkind, but this is the level of hype that is being pushed for this thing. I get the feeling they've overshot, and should expect a hype backlash. On the plus side, I think my local cinema has shelled out for some 3D equipment, so I may actually be able to see it as intended, since I've yet to see any of these new-fangled 3D films. (even though 3D films have been around since the fifties.) |
