Dos Guis

I only know of Gem/Gemini, which is a graphical GUI for DOS that's small enough to fit on a standard floppy.

Are there any other such programs? It doesn't really matter if they're small enough to fit on a floppy, though that would be best. Just anything that could be used under DOS to move and delete files and folders and such without having to use the command line.

There's OpenGEM and SEAL for instance.

I have tried Seal under FreeDOS once (a year back or so). It worked pretty well. OpenGEM also looks good, but different!

Why would someone want to use DOS without using the command line is beyond me. That's what DOS is for. :blink:

Why would anyone use Total Cmd instead of explorer? Because it makes things simple

Norton commander, but the best is Dos navigator.I am talking of course for real dos.I never used freedos so i can't tell.

Omuletzu: I don't see why someone would use Total Commander either. Maybe it's just me, but having a graphical interface to use DOS is not something I really understand. It's so easier and faster to type it by hand... If it get repetitive, then just create a batch file and you're done.

As for explorer, the only reason why I use it is because there is nothing better under Windows. The only benefit DOS don't have is multitasking...

DOSSHELL was okay. Should be included in DOS 5 and later if I remember correctly.

It's a lot faster to move files and such if all I have to do is drag and drop.
DOS works well for managing files and folders, but it takes more time, something that I don't always have enough of.

Having a bootable floppy with a good GUI for moving stuff around is invaluable when preparing a hard drive for a full OS install. Besides, isn't it just cool to have a whole OS on a single floppy?

Also, I tried SEAL and it looks amazing for such a small program, though it doesn't allow you to run DOS programs directly from its GUI, something that can be done in Gem.
Also, SEAL is a little too big to fit on a single floppy, but I figure if I remove some of the games and unecessary programs I could probably get it down to size.
