Aaargh! That pit scene was horrible!

EDIT: @Old Commodore veterans: If you really want to talk about Hard time, then talk about the cassette drive.

Oh yeah, I remember. <_< My (older) brother brings a game. "Hey this is a really good one!" OK. Casette in press play. Didn't work. "Nah, OK. This can happen." Tryed again. Didn't work. "Maybe we have to blow the dust out. PFFFF!" OK. New try. Didn't work. "Maybe we just had bad luck. Now it's gonna work!" Next try. Guess what: Didn't work.

The other day I was home alone and thought:"I'll give this ONE try. If it doesn't work I'll play something else." Casette in. Play. Game worked.
Told my brother, when I stopped playing - he wouldn't believe... -.-

Oh, dude, the old days...

Slightly off topic, I just met a guy recently who still owns and maintains an original portable version of the C64. It's portable in the same way 30 bowling balls in a huge leather suitcase is portable LOL

Incidentally, if I think too much about the pain that Dragon's Lair put me through when I was a child I will have nightmares!

I don't consider Dragon's Lair a pain... I consider it work. :P

Work that just happens to be fun. Hehe.

Also, the facial expressions on Dirk when he dies are priceless.

Here's another really bloody hard game: Karateka.

Fun, though.

Karateka hard? I found it within the reasonable difficult games. Still some savegame options would help

Amen to that (same with MGS 2, the multiple rays were a royal pain.)
i'm at a hard moment on ninja gaiden right now and have been for ages (the level where you have to fight 2 tanks then go up the lift to fight a nasty helicopter - i'm stuck on the helicopter)

I have loads of patience when it comes to adventure style games but hard parts in fps's and similar just annoy me, doom 3 was starting to do that near the end as I reloaded for the 60th or so time and tried to avoid falling in the hole , getting stuck or running into a bad guy whilst trying to move backwards away from the big dude

going along the same lines I nearly always start FPS's in normal or easy mode and once I have finished them it is very rare that I go back over them as it all seems pointless to me doing the same levels again but just having a harder time. also games that restrict your saves get a big thumbs down.

I played about two thirds of the way through 'american mcgees alice' before computer problems that led to ( due to my mistake ) me losing all my save games when I realised this I stuck the game on the shelf in disgust and have never gone back to it

Have you tried The Great Escape 2003? It restricts the number of savegames and that makes it more challeging. You can't just save at every simple thing you do because for every mission you have only 4 saves availabe. You will think twice before saving, asking yourself: Was that part really so hard? How much more untill the end of the game? Do I loose a lot if I have to replay the mission up to this part?

It's a great adventure game well worth playing and like I said the limited savegames make it all the more interesting.
