The commands should be posted in the exact syntax you entered in DOSBox. Small errors in a part that "wasn't important" are cause of a large number of problems people come to us with.

E:>heroes.exe
*then it tells me i have performed an illegal operation.*
Exact error message, please. It's not like taking a screenshot in DOSBox is difficult.

Default Sorry

I'm now blind, dumb & frustrated. I, too, have tried all the variations I could find to the cd problem for this game. It is still saying "unable to access cd drive. Currently, I have the .conf file setup as follows...
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount c C:
mount d c:\ -t cdrom
Any help/ideas ??

Try mounting the game directory as the CD drive.
Also, never mount the root of your system drive. Use a dedicated directory for your dos games and mount that as C drive in DOSBox.

This game is now protected due to it being sold on Good Old Games:

Angry something went wrong...

so I mounted the drive and everything as I have done with every other game I've played on the DosBox. However, when I try to actually play the game, it stalls for a few minutes and then the message "Unable to access CD Drive." comes up. Any ideas on what to do? I figured I could just start over an get the file from the site again, but I'm an idiot and I can't find the download link. Anyway, please help. I used to love this game, and I'd love to be able to play it again.

also i hope you are not running the windows version in DOSBox.
BTW if you download the windows version and burn it on CD everything should work fine (install and play) in WinXP & lower (at least).

Thumbs up Memories!!

I first played a demo of this from PC Gamer and was instantly hooked. All of the games up until HOMM4 were just great fun.

If you don't consider HOMM4 to be fun then bury yourself. It was the most undervalued game ever. And... well... who cares, everyone plays what they like.
