![]() Well, I know that 6x86 processors were somewhat faster then the Pentium 1-processors (which is 586 chipset) during that time. So at least you can be sure that it is faster than Pentium 1

![]() So you are saying that this proc is better than my P 166 ?

![]() I would state that, but keep in mind that sayed above by me is the only thing that I know about these processors, as they were not that widely popular / known, so better wait what others may say.

![]() the linux kernel has this to say
Code:
CONFIG_M586: * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *x * *x * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * x * *x Select this for an 586 or 686 series processor such as the AMD K5, * * *x * *x the Intel 5x86 or 6x86, or the Intel 6x86MX. *This choice does not * * *x * *x assume the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction.

![]() So what speed do you say the proc has?
Smb said it may have 233 MHz... is this accurate, or is it only 166 MHz(as i have read on some sites?) |

![]() You cannot simply put any old CPU on your motherboard. Make sure your motherboard can handle the processor or you might see smoke rising out of your computer very quickly.
On the speed of the processor, this can be anything since processor from the same series can have different speeds. If your motherboard can handle the processor trying it out is the simplest form of finding out.

![]() The IBM 6x86 PR200 is the same as the Cyrix 6x86 PR200. They are 100% compatible with x86 family but not completely with a pentium, since it's not a clone.
Quite some information I found here: http://www.pcguide.com/ref/cpu/fam/g5C6x86-c.html. |
